Why not enjoy using the best tools?
A joy to use. First itโs crazy accurate. The rule is easy to read and can be easily positioned in the tool so any of the scales are where you want them. Once secured the rule doesnโt move and is easy to adjust. A scribe is mounted in the head along with a spirit level. Would I buy it again? YES! I liked it so much I bought the Starrett 12 inch combination square with center finder and protractor. Awesome tools.

There is no comparison to a Starrett combination square.
I sprung for a good combination square because I finally got tired of my cheap little Harbor Freight square. Wow. I would have bought this years ago had I known how good this tool is. Precision precision precision. Every detail of this tool is perfect. Perfect measurements, perfect 45 degree angle, perfectly square, easy to tighten, easy to flip the ruler around, the scribe fits perfectly into place, the leveling bubble is exact...There is absolutely no flaw to this tool. That said, keep it wrapped in an oily rag, or it will rust. Also, I wish it came with a case. This tool came in a plastic bag in a Starrett cardboard box. Eventually, I'll get around to making a little box for it. Great, great tool.

Pleasure to use
Incredibly accurate and durable. When I use it, I feel more confident in my work. And, it kind of makes you smile when you pick it up because it's so well made. Definitely worth the price.

The square is square
Need to make sure it's square? This will definitely help. I purchased the 6 in and kinda wish I had the 12" too. Good quality, easy to assemble and dissassemble if needed. Its square out of the box and good to go. Kinda pricey yes, could I have bought a cheapo one at home Depot... Yes.. ever work on something only to figure out something wasn't square and had to spend more time fixing the mistake? Yes.. that's why I bought this. Save yourself the time and and effort and invest in precise tools.

Top quality and so useful...
a 6" square is so useful around the shop you'll want to keep it in your front pocket. This one is top quality without breaking the bank. Accurate, durable, smooth sliding action, easy to read machined markings and a good feel in your hands. A square that you can past down to your kids. I think I use the 6" more than its big brothers (but don't let that slow you from getting a good 12" model). All of this, and you get Starrett's warranty. Buy it, you won't regret it.

Great while it lasted
Anyone who questions the value of Starrett products should purchase one before making a decision. This was my first Starrett, and was so much better than any other combination square I had used before that I won't ever think they cost too much. Unfortunately, this square met an early demise due to carelessness on my part (fortunately, I wasn't injured). I immediately replaced it with a new Starrett that had the satin chrome finish. It cost a little more, but it's a lot easier to read (that's why I'm giving this four stars instead of five).

Great pocket size combination square.
This is a very handy little combination square. It's the perfect size to fit in my pocket, so I can have it readily available to check a measurement or make a quick mark. It has a level and scriber built into the handle, but I haven't had use for those really. I tend to use my level or pocket scriber because that's just how my brain works I guess. I haven't used many brands of combination squares, but I can say this is much better than the empire ones you get at your local box store. But you get what you pay (not sure if it's 10 times better, but it feels like it might last 10 times longer, it will just take a while to know for sure). This has a much smoother slide to it and the weight feels really good, like it's not going to move while I'm making my mark. It's also true enough for anything I'm doing right out of the box and hasn't developed that wobble I get from the aluminum head combination squares. This feels like a tool that will last a lifetime, and if you're a semi serious hobby woodworker, like myself, you won't be unhappy with this tool.

Very accurate
This thing is so nice, itโs very accurate and the steel itโs ground out of is incredible hard. It barely has any scratches on it after a few months in the metal shop

Not square! Sharp edges, glare. PEC is waaaay better and cheaper
This is supposed to be the golden standard of accuracy, yet mine arrived out of square! This is precisely why you shell out the big money for Starrett - not to have to deal with adjusting it out of the box. I did adjust it, but it is now relegated to rough tasks that don't require ultimate precision. I have lost faith in it. Moreover, the edges were so sharp that I actually cut myself. Yet another task I had to perform (dull the edges) before I could use it. Finally, the shiny surface of the steel makes it difficult for me to see the numbers. I found PEC combination squares significantly better -- in fact they are impeccable -- and for much less. It could be that Starrett factory has run into problems and this is a particularly bad batch. But for me, they have forever destroyed their reputation (which is precisely that they will not have a bad batch, ever!). Good riddance, in my view. Welcome PEC tools!

Great accuracy but a dysfunctional screw attachment.
I could not get the screw attachment to ever work reliably - which basically means that my $15 home depot purchase ends up getting used way more than this super expensive piece. I really wish they had more quality control sorted out.
