While the price and aesthetics are good, unfortunately the functionality is not. My old laptop SSD regularly sees R/W speeds of 500+mb/s when installed internally (via 6GBps SATA III). When the SSD is installed in this enclosure, I expected R/W speeds in the 400mb/s range because of USB 3.0 being capped at 5GBps. This was not entirely the case though.On a test file transfer to the SSD, I saw fast write speeds of 400+mb/s for about the first 5 seconds, then they dropped off to 30MB/s and wouldn’t budge. I couldn’t figure why it was going so slow. I decided to try a different USB port, but when I went to move the drive, the enclosure was VERY HOT to the touch! Alarmed, I looked at the drive temp using CrystalDiskInfo and it was 63°C and climbing!! That is not safe temperature for an SSD!!My best guess is that the controller used in this board is lower quality and heats up way too quickly. That in turn heats up the already warming drive. Poor thermal dissipation from the enclosure doesn’t help either. This heat causes the drive (or controller) to throttle the speeds in an attempt to control the heat.My recommendation is to stay away from this particular enclosure if you care about your SSD. I will be returning this enclosure and looking for an alternative. ### ⭐⭐ Build quality is pretty good, and assembly is fine (they even give ... *by N***L on Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2018* Build quality is pretty good, and assembly is fine (they even give you a tiny, if not cheap screwdriver), but I was pretty disappointed by the speed. Overall I'm getting 300-350mbps (not to be confused with MB/s) on a drive that is capable of more than ten times that. I know it's not the enclosure, since it worked fine with another enclosure, and on the plus side this SHOULD prevent the drive from overheating (it stays nice and cool, compared to other enclosures), but at those speeds I may as well have purchased a device with a USB 2.0 interface, and not the USB 3/3.1 interface that this unit advertises. On the plus side the USB C connector doesn't feel flimsy like most micro-USB connectors seem to, though I'm skeptical on it actually being USB C.Overall it's OK for the price, as long as you're alright with having relatively poor speeds. If you already have a large mSATA drive and don't care about speed this is a good buy, but if you were considering buying this and an mSATA drive you might as well just buy a big flash drive. I do like the slim form factor, but will probably be looking for a better enclosure elsewhere. ### ⭐ DO NOT BUY! Quality control issues. They include a couple of extra standoffs to install if you want to use the short form factor. Hopefully you have an arbor press or a vice handy.After installing, I plugged the drive into my Macbook only to find that the drive would reset every 10 seconds or so. Completely unusable. Being an engineer I began examining the device more closely, and found a series of basically unsoldered through-hole pins on the USB-C connector (photo attached). This is pretty basic stuff, y'all.I don't know why I keep buying cheap crap on Amazon, only to get burned again and again.
