Why do these have acetic acid aka vinegar in them?

I think Ms. Tanase is alluding to the fact that Israeli pickles should not have vinegar in them, and people who make brine pickles take pride in not using vinegar at all since it does not taste the same and should only depend on the salt, dill and fermentation process. However, the real and obvious answer is that vinegar increases the shelf life of a canned product. If you want true, Middle East style pickling with brine only and no vinegar, you have to make it yourself because it will go bad faster than vinegar-based pickling. Everyone who hasn't had pickles that don't include vinegar seriously needs to try them at some point in their life. The taste is markedly better than store bought vinegar based pickles.

How do these pickles compare to Tut’s cucumber pickles?

Not familiar with tuts pickles but these Israeli pickles  are the best I know. I love these Israeli products. They are tasty and strong the way pickles should be.

What is the expected Shelf life on these pickles? Are they good for long term storage for preppers?

Accepted Answer

Since they are brined they should last between 2 and 5 years as long as the cans are not damaged or subjected to extreme temperatures in storage.  I have no idea what a 'prepper' is--it's not something I've ever used in cooking or food storage.  So--I can not speak directly whether these pickles are "good for long term storage for preppers".

No, there is no vinegar in these pickles. They need to be refrigerated after the can is opened. This also means that the pickles can go bad if not eaten within a couple of weeks.
