Can this be use for an 120v 60hz american appliance in japan with their 100v plugs and vice versa?

Since the transformer operates on 120v, it might not be as powerful with 100v in Japan. Also, make sure the wattage rating for the transformer is 3X MORE than that of the appliance.

Japanese electrical things run at 100 volts, not 120 volts like here in America. This transformer has two different voltages one is 100 volts and the other is 120 volts. So if you want to use a japanese CD player plug it in the 100 outlet. If you go to Japan and want to use a US CD player you would plug it in the 120 outlet providing you switch the voltage in the back. Leave it at 120 volts. You do not need anything else with this transformer.
