All eight 6TB drives (previously initialized) showed up on the desktop right away. OSX was able to stripe them all together as a RAID 0 (figured speed was more important than data recovery as this is a BACKUP). The array has been running non-stop for three days so far without complaint as Time Machine grinds through our 14TB of data for the initial backup.Bad: USB 3.0 has proven to be very unstable for FCP editing - and this array is no exception Luckily it was not intended for this, but we gave it a shot anyway hoping to save some money. We were always waiting on the drives to spin up. We have not seen this problem on our Thunderbolt arrays. Worked the first time. Literally. Took me about a minute to configure Microsoft Windows 8 Storage Spaces. Was interested to see if it would take 8 old hard drives varying from 300 Gb to 1Tb. Pooled all of them into one logical drive with 2-way mirroring. Amazingly simple and useful.Silver looks great. Build quality solid for the price. Very quiet next to my tower pc. USB 3.0 functioning. Very large first time file transfer of video, photos and docs.
