Exact replacement for Maytag 74007498. HINT: The old igniter that I replaced glowed, but took about 90 seconds to allow the gas safety valve to open and supply gas to the heat manifold, and, even though the igniter would continue to glow, the gas safety valve would begin to "sputter" and not deliver enough gas to keep the burner lit. This replacement igniter glows brighter in operation, and allows the gas safety valve to open about 15 seconds after the igniter starts to glow. The gas flow remains constantly high until the temperature sensor shows the oven has reached temperature, and the igniter continues to work correctly while the burner cycles on and off to keep the oven at the set temperature. I was concerned that the way the old igniter was glowing but the gas delivery was inconsistent that the gas safety valve was failing......but it was just a worn out... BUT NOT TOTALLY FAILED .......old igniter. WORN IGNITERS CAN GLOW, BUT STILL NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. Always replace the igniters first!!!.....UPDATE: 06/05/23....this igniter failed after about 18 months use......I guess I will try a different brand.....I have ordered an alternate, but, being a cautious guy, I had ordered a 2nd igniter when i bought this one 18 months ago, so I just installed that one, we'll just have to see if it lasts more than 18 months! (I am getting good at replacing these, this time it only took about 10 minutes)

Oven used to take over 30 minutes to preheat to 350 and everything would cook slow. A frozen meal says 50 minutes at 375? Try 70 minutes at 400. Not with this new igniter. It was relatively easy to install, cheaper than an OEM one and fixed the oven completely. Now it preheats to 350 in 8 minutes.

Google your problems, watch some videos on the fix itself, and buy this part. Our double stove is rough on these ignitors, this being the second replacement in the 6 years since buying it. From experience, wipe out your stove before taking anything apart. You wont be able to run a "clean oven" cycle since, if you actually need this part, the oven will not ignite to heat up. Pull the oven out, unplug from the wall, remove the bottom panel on the inside of the stove, locate the ignitor, trace the wires to the proper panel on the back, remove the back panel, unhook the proper connector AND TAPE SOMETHING TO IT. I used a wire clothes hanger one time, a chop stick another. You'll need to tape over the connector to prevent it from getting snagged on the insulation. On the inside of the oven, unscrew the ignitor and pull the cord through the bottom panel. Once the taped connector is out, you can tape the new connector to the coat hanger (or whatever), and pull it back through. I promise that if you do not do this, you will regret it. It is way easier to pull it than to blindly push through insulation.

Arrived on time, and installed a couple of days later. Worked great for almost a whole 2 weeks, now won't light at all.

This worked great and was easy to install.

Simple to install once the old unit was removed, it solved the main burner ignition problem.

Our gas oven stopped working. After researching the problem on Google and seeing a 'How to replace" video on Youtube, it was determined that it was an easy fix, a bad igniter, or 'glow stick.' My husband could not move the oven out far enough to disconnect the igniter from the back of the oven. He had to disconnect the gas line first. By removing the igniter before ordering a new one, it was easier to get a match, especially with respect to the wiring harness.. We Found the correct part and my husband installed it in 15 minutes after it arrived.. The hard part was pulling the oven out of the wall to disconnect and reconnect, but that was do-able. We simply pulled the oven out to rest on some plastic storage crates with a few boards on top. Oven is as good as new!

My Maytag oven stopped heating up. I could see the ignitor glowing but gas would not come on and ignite.A quick search on the internet revealed that even though the ignitor was glowing, it can still be bad. I won't go into detail but basically the ignitor is electrically in line with the "safety" gas valve. If the ignitor completely fails, the gas valve will not open. However, as the ignitor ages it's electrical properties can change and while it glows it will not allow the gas valve to open. Apparently, gas valve failures are very rare but ignitor issues are common. Changing the ignitor (very easy to do) fixed my issue.

Oven igniter. Worked great

Before ordering this make sure the adapter and the cord connector matches the one on your oven.The one we have has a different adapter (the screw in part is actually on a 90 degree so the opening to the igniter is actually facing down and not to the gas). I had to remove the old adapter and use to with the new igniter. Swapping the adapter wasn't too hard.The other problem was the this cord connector did not match the one for my oven (Canada?). I had to cut the connector from this new one and cut the connect from the old one and spliced the wiring with some wire nuts. Then I can reconnect this new igniter with the old connector.Once those two things were done, I the igniter worked flawlessly.Overall, the product is exactly what is looks like but minus one star since it did say it should fit my model oven, which it didn't.

Easy to install. Bought two for one as a spare.
