I had super long hair, and was dealing with a lot of hair loss due to chemo meds. My hair started growing back and after it got to a few inches long, all one length all around. I have fine textured hair so typically my hair is layered and razor cut by my stylist. I watched a few YouTube tutorials and learned how to layer my hair and thin out the spots that are really thick and uneven with the new growth I had. The top of the comb comes off but the razors are a bit tough to get out of the comb for washing after use. The side with wider spaces between the tines of the comb is for 50% thinning while the finer side is for more all over thinning. While thinning out hair, if you angle it at 90 degrees or more towards the ends, you can simply cut off the length as well instead of hair scissors. This was my very first time cutting my own hair and I managed to thin out the back of my hair towards my neck and taper it down without using a mirror but just by touch, feeling around where the length and thickness needed to be trimmed down. Thinned and shortened the sides of my head easily for a more symmetrical uniformed look of a pixie. I think I did a decent job being my first time and I didn’t end up with any bald gaps. I think this razor comb is very beginner friendly, cost effective for at home trims or cuts, efficient for the purpose and I’m getting another one to use for trims on my pup!

I've had this several months and use it frequently to keep my hair trimmed between hair appointments. It is super easy to use and does work best on damp hair. I like the longer blades and as long as the razors are sharp the tool cuts like a dream. I've had no issues with hair pulling or trouble keeping it clean. You just have to be cautious initially until you get the feel of the cutter. The shaper is very lightweight but seems sturdy enough for what it's designed to do. Replacing the blades is super easy. Just gently pull the top off, use the slide to push the blades up, and replace. When changing blades, please remember that even though the blades are "dull" for hair shaping, they're still razor blades so caution is needed. I am really pleased with this product! I've used those smaller ones and they're no match for this.

Update (5/31/20): Decided to add comparison details between the Bangmeng and the Tinkle. Both have their positive attributes. The Bangmeng has much longer comb teeth, so will not cut as close as the Tinkle. I use the Bangmeng on the top, and the Tinkle on the sides and back. Update (5/23/20): Added two more pictures after another "trim". Some additional observations: a) be sure to disassemble and clean really well, hair gets caught inside the comb head; found the best way to clean is remove the blades, then swish around in a bucket of water, b) experiment with the different head sides, since each one cuts a little different. Also really like the built in comb (vs. ones with only a handle), super convenient to flip it around, and comb, then flip it back and continue cutting. Original (4/23/20): During COVID-19, can’t go to the barber shop so using these to thin out my hair. I was a little worried about taking out a big chunk of hair, and my wife refused to even try as well. So I started with the taller side, and just “danced” around the bottom to get the feel. I started with the comb/blade perpendicular to my scalp. After combing through and not taking off very much hair, I began to CAREFULLY tilt the comb in 3-5 degree increments. After getting the feel of it, I moved to top of my head. After going over everything with the tall side of the comb, I repeated with the short comb side. Tips: Take your time. Try on a test subject first (sister, brother, unwitting friend, etc.) Use a mirror or the camera on your phone. If you hair is really long, you might want to take off half the length, and wash so you hair can reset, then have another "session". It works for a quick shakeup or to remove wild hairs. I’d be worried using it as the only means to have my hair trimmed

I don't know how I feel about this. I bought this originally for my poodle to ease our grooming woes. I thought this would be an easier option to scissors and she wouldn't be so afraid. She hated this just as much as scissors (I have no idea why because before she realized I had an instrument in my hand she seemed to enjoy what she thought was "petting") it never cut her, was easy to use on her curly fur, but it did NOT take enough off and it took FOREVER to get the small amount of fur I did get, off. I realized this would maybe work best for her to fix up straggly ends after a scissor cut. So I cleaned it, changed the blade and tried it on my kids hair to see how it worked in the "in between " stages before a haircut, one child has super thick hair, the other has soft, fine hair. It REALLY hurt both of them pulling it through their hair which is only a few inches long on the top. I then tried it on my daughter to try to "thin out" her thick hair that tangles easy. It made it look like she had split ends and broken hair. I was going to chalk this up as a loss, until my husband said, hey what is that comb/razor thing you have? I used it on my beard, and it hurt really bad to use, but it's exactly what I needed to keep my beard from looking straggly, it's perfect for keeping it up! So, inadvertantly I bought the best beard taming tool (albeit painful to use) instead of a grooming tool for a poodle, or my children lol at least it's found its purpose and it wasn't a waste of money, and he really was looking for something to help with his beard! So it was the perfect little accident.

This is an easiest labor comb I ever had . So easy to layer and thin out hair , easy to clean, , easy to pull razor out . Come with extra razor and this price are very appreciated. Razor is so smooth slides . Length of comb are pretty good holding . Labor size as well . Very durable . Save money and time for going to salon . I am very satisfied about this labor comb .

This is so much fun to use! Easy and quick. Now, I am really not co-ordinated enough to aline mirrors to see what I might be doing to the back of my head hair, however, I really can't see it have no idea of what it looks like - but it feels great and as I said, can't see it so really not my problem.

First of all, This is a great tool. You can give yourself almost a full haircut with no harsh straight lines & texture for days. Perfect for very straight hair, Fine hair, shiny hair that lays down easily on its own. HOWEVER!!! You have to know what hair types to use it on. NO KINKY CURLY, NO COURSE TEXTURED , NO FRIZZY, NO DOUBLE PROCESSED, BLEACH BLONDE HAIR. Here's the story: I used to use the Paul Mitchell carving comb when I was in beauty school. This is pretty much a replica of it. I loved that thing. You could do so much free hand detail work and place layers by eye. Especially good for disconnected piecy short styles. I bought this & other stuff for doing my own hair because I remember loving it back when I was doing hair. I guess I totally blocked out the fact that they told us in beauty school not to use razors on course thick hair!! (I have a course textue to each strand, wavy-curly when manipulated, 35% gray coming in & overall very frizzy unruly if not styled from wet. Also, starting to thin a bit in the front-white ethnicity, 38yrs old) I have been straightening my hair lately because my curls just aren't forming like they used to. I noticed that my straightener is quickly putting damage on my ends and so I figured I'd just go through with the razor and cut all those ends off & connect some layers. After I got done doing my hair I washed it as usual. Using this was a really BAD IDEA! It just exasperated all the bad that was going on in my hair. I seriously made it look like I had bushy blown open split ends everywhere now. Something about using that razor just inflamed all of the tips of the cuticle. When you have coarse hair it doesn't lay down flat and so cutting a jagged point off of the ends causes the cuticles to lift up and go in different directions. The texture side of the comb, turned the last 1" of my ends into a bushy crazy mess. I can't believe how bad it is (I used to be a pretty good stylist! ) I'll have to wait months for this to grow out in order to go back through with regular professional sharp scissors and fix it. FINE HAIR, SHINY HAIR, very STRAIGHT HAIR is great for these because those hair types have strands that lay down naturally and the cuticle doesn't have a tendency to be easily blown open & flare up. Razors make uneven harsh cuts and thick coarse hair needs the cuticle to be as smooth as possible especially at the ends. Heavily processed BLEACHED HAIR is an absolute no for this! The hair's blown open at the ends from chemicals and it can't handle this kind of uneven texturing at the ends. Now you know!
