Saco Cultured Buttermilk for Cooking and Baking, Powdered, 12 oz

I’ve used this product to make buttermilk bread in a bread machine for over ten years. It’s also good for other recipes. And you can use it when you want to soak chicken in buttermilk before cooking. The container I received yesterday smelled strongly of chemicals from being shipped with non-food items which reeked of chemicals. It’s likely that the chemicals off-gassed during shipping and transferred to my food items in the same box. I might have to throw this container away because it’s cardboard and it can’t be washed thoroughly to get the chemical odor off. But I will continue to purchase and use this product because it’s so handy. And it can be stored for awhile in the fridge. It’s cheaper than having to buy fresh buttermilk on a regular basis.

I have had a hard time finding this buttermilk in stores. The price was great. This product is great to have when you need some buttermilk, but don't buy the fresh stuff.

This product has been around forever and has never failed me. It is a combination of buttermilk solids, whey, and lactic acid. I use it for baking so I don't know how it would perform if you just want a glass of buttermilk.

The product is fine, but the pick up system through Whole Foods needs some serious re-working. First, you are asked to select a specific one-hour pickup window (in my case, for the next day). Who knows exactly when they can get to the local Whole Foods 24 hours from now? But I selected 10-11 am. I missed that by a bit, and at 11:10, I got a message telling me so, and advising me to pick up "as soon as possible." OK. So maybe 15 minutes later, I headed off to my local store - and I checked in through the text, as requested, saying I would pick up inside the store in 10 minutes. On my way there, I got TWO phone calls from Amazon looking for me. (I didn't answer, because I was driving, I saw them later.) I got to the store, went to the desk and was told my order would be right out. Then I waited... and waited.... After 10 minutes, I asked again, and a different clerk looked at my text message and asked if I had checked in (yes, I had...) so she went off to check. I wait again. Another 5 minutes pass, and she comes back to say that apparently since I hadn't picked up in my original one-hour window, the order was pulled and I had to check in AGAIN to get it back in the system. <<sigh>> I did that, and then finally my order came out. NEVER again will I order for pick up at Whole Foods! I don't blame my local store, at all. They were as mystified as I was. But Amazon, that ridiculous one-hour pick up window has got to go!

Pantry staple in our house as we love to use buttermilk but it can sometimes be a pain to remember to pick it up for a special treat or use it all in time when fresh. Currently using for bread maker buttermilk bread and I can't tell the difference between this powder mix and fresh buttermilk.

If you can’t get real butter milk. This is awesome to have one hand. Works the same as buttermilk in the fridge

Convenient, lasts a lot longer that regular butter milk. Just make what you need.

Powdered buttermilk is very hard to find in most grocery stores. I was happy to order from this online site. I bake a lot and this is an item that helps me with many recipes
