FEL-PRO BS 40183 Engine Crankshaft Seal Kit

Replaced the rear main seal on my Jeep Wrangler with this one and it’s been holding strong! No more oil leaks, and the fit was spot-on. It’s a tough job, but the part itself is solid and reliable. Great quality—definitely recommend if you're tackling this repair!

Fits perfect on the old straight 6, easy to put in, felpro has always been a great quality, worth the money, you buy cheap then plan to replace it in a few months to a year. Jeeps are known to leak and felpro has always been my trusted source of gaskets.

Had to do twice , not sure what went wrong , replaced rear main twice and looks dry now , all that had to come off was the double cat exhaust pipe and moved starter out of way , and a piece of cake after that , the seal in my hand is my old one , it looks more pronounced on that lip , the second replacement looked better . Used anaerobic sealer on main cap , hardest part was the exhaust to downstream cat , the 3 flange bolts were a nightmare , cut both ends of the bolts off and found what’s left is pressure fit like a lug stud , the only rusty compromised bolts on Jeep. The gasket is fine , made well but it is not straight forward as an install. you need that little shoehorn in order to not shred the outer border of the seal otherwise it gets shaved off and not the seal is not as full in girth as you would expect and leak may result. In the Jeep Wrangler 2005 TJ Rubicon you need as well an anaerobic seal of the metal surface surrounding the gasket as it comes out of the block and enter the main bearing cap. I have done this 3 times and doing this along with placing a thin layer of Permatex, Black on the outside of the seal in the bearing cap before installing in the groove of the cap and then a generous layer of Permatex again Black on the curved rear portion of the oil pan gasket and of the pan itself basically sandwiching the rear curved Fel Prol oil gasket ( separate from the rear seal ) actually gave me a perfect seal with no leaks. I tried no Permatex before and limited use in certain spots and had profuse leaks. If i ever have to do this again will follow the steps listed above this most recent time.

Can't beat it for quality. This is the go-to gasket company for a Jeep Wrangler TJ, as well as many other vehicles. The quality is there for sure. The 4.0L engine's rear main oil seal can be tricky to install, but there are many online install write-ups. And hey, you do not have to pull the transmission to get to it. You *do* have to pull your whole exhaust, however, which is a major PITA. You get to it by removing the oil pan, and the exhaust is simply in the way for this project. However, it allows you to really examine your engine's bottom end, and you can go through the oil sump and look for metal shaving or chips (or big chunks!!!). I very highly recommend replacing the RMS on the 4.0L if you have to do the oil pan gasket, and vise-versa. Read up on it and watch several YouTube videos and you ought not have any real problems. Getting the old upper half out and the new one in can be very tricky, but, again, RESEARCH and you will be fine. This seems like a daunting task, but if you are fully prepared and know what has to be done you will be okay. This Fel-Pro gasket is one of two or three that I would ever consider using on my engine. Don't be a fool and get some cheap RMS. This is one of the few points on our 4.0L that is prone to leaking. Get a good one and INSTALL IT YOURSELF so that you *know* it was done correctly and your driveway stays clean! Also look at your valve cover gasket at the same time, as the very back bolt tends to leak if not installed properly. If you do the pan gasket, the valve cover gasket and this Rear Main Seal you will have a happy engine.

Perfect fit 2001 Jeep 4.0

La utilice para mi jeep cherokee xj 2001. Desarmar todo para llegar al retén de aceite es complicado. El kit del sello trae un trozo plástico que sirve para deslizar la parte superior del sello más fácil dentro de la ranura en el bloque.

Perfect fit for Jeep TJ 4.0. If you’ve never done a seal before I’d order 2. The engine block has a very sharp edge and will shave off the edge of the seal if you aren’t very careful. Use the popsicle shaped paper thingy and use a generous amount of dish soap on the edge that will contact the popsicle shaped thingy. Do NOT let that part of the seal contact the sharp edge. Good luck. Take your time. It’s not hard.
