With his fifth edition, Chief John Norman offers lessons learned during his extensive and time-honored career. Chief Norman imparts wisdom and experience by offering advice informed by actual outcomes from the fireground. This guide continues to be invaluable for firefighters aspiring to the officer level and those seeking to promote safety and effectiveness in their organization and the communities they serve by improving their own skills. This fifth edition conveys valuable information gained over the past several years from scientific research relating to the tactics that we use to the changes that have taken place within our communities. Failure to recognize change and adapt to it places a fire department at a great disadvantage and can cost lives and property. The community changes that most directly affect the fire service today include faster, hotter, and more toxic fires and significantly reduced staffing in many fire departments. These are inescapable facts. Our challenge is to use the knowledge that is at our disposal to select the right tools, technologies, and tactics to safely and successfully adapt to and overcome these challenges. Review: Interesting with lots of knowledge passed down. - The author is very knowledgeable and passes down his experiences in this handbook. Gives a lot of information that is easy to read and understand. Not in a sterile type of way that some handbooks are written. It doesn't put you to sleep while trying to read it. Review: Must read for anyone in the fire service after their first year. - A great beyond the basics text book. The author does a good job relating the material to actual calls he has been on. Its a more technical version of the stories the senior guys tell around the kitchen table.

Amazing
I was mind blown with the condition this book was in. I expected it to look slightly used but it looked brand new.

Buy, if needed.
Buy, and read, if you are taking the exam.

unnecessary at best.
Nothing against the seller, came just as promised but this “study guide” is useless. The questions are mind numbingly stupid, worded poorly and often wrong. I spent more time looking back through the book proving the answers wrong than I did actually looking back through to see what I legitimately got wrong. Safe to say it will confuse you more than just going through and reading the book a few times.
