Amazing Flavor - A Sweet addition that reminds me of a light cranberry taste.
I was taught to cook by two amazing cooks, both locally famous and one who even wrote a cooking column in a local Newspaper. I cook and create my own recipes and self taught additional culinary skills. My wife bought this spice for me to experiment with. My first attempt was my already famous cabbage soup and the Sumac took it to a higher level, per my testers. They too agreed it added a hint of sweetness to the recipe.I would recommend anyone who enjoys cooking to add this to their spice collection...I know I did.

Incredible addition to the spice collection
I liked this so much I bought a jar for each of my daughters' homes. We have all loved the flavor and enjoy experimenting with this seasoning, first using it in a couple traditional Palestinian dishes. My spouse and I are originally from Louisiana so we use a lot of Cajun and Creole seasoning (in almost all our day to day cooking). Our kids grew up on those flavors. Maybe that's why but we have learned you almost can't be too generous with this. It's somehow flavorful but not as strong as the seasonings we are accustomed to. It has a beautiful color too!

Incredible flavor, coarse grind
I bought this to replace an old jar of ground sumac I'd been working through from Penzey's. The Penzey's sumac was old, and the flavor must have dulled because wow, the new Z&Z sumac was incredible! This sumac is very coarsely crushed/ground, and is so fresh that it feels a little damp to the touch. It's got the usual lemony tang to it, and is a great addition to all sorts of foods. I particularly enjoy it in scrambled eggs, along with the Z&Z Za'atar.

Fills the bill
My first experience with sumac, which I was unfamiliar with. Finding multiple uses for it. Good stuff.

Great flavor!
We have been trying to consume more protein in our diet and found that many Middle Eastern recipes call for Sumac. What a great flavor! It has been fun trying new recipes using it. And chicken will no longer be boring when using this spice. It was impossible to find this in local stores so I was excited to see that Amazon carried it.

Update...Not Ground Well
Ok. So I ended up buying Penzeys and that was not bad, but I used it all up to make my zaatar mix. Then I wanted to make imsakhan, only to remember that I had no sumac, or so I thought. I had never opened the ZZ sumac because I felt bad using it (as I had gotten a refund) and had the intention to find out their mailing address and mail them the product as I was not happy with it and did not want to toss it. Anyways, I figured I would open it and taste it. Ok, it is definitely not ground finely. Looks like it has a bunch of berry casings. I always thought these were rock hard, but they were not. Despite expecting a finer ground it is excellent tasting sumac, better than Penzeys in regard to the flavor. Better than anything I have bought in the US. Just as good as Palestine actually...taste wise, but I wish it was ground finer.Sorry,I was very disappointed. I have NOT opened my jar yet, but it is obvious this is a coarse (not ground fully) blend. Maybe I got the bottom of the bag with heavier unground bits. Not only is this inconvenient to have to blend it in a coffee grinder (for the price it should be professionally ground), but is is dangerous to have hard bits that are unground. Someone who does not know sumac might sprinkle this on whatever or use it for imsakhan (lets say they never made imsakhan but had it at a friend's house and asked for the recipe) only to bite into the hard bits and break/chip a tooth. I hate to leave a bad review, but at least it does not seem to be mixed with salt (that is a plus) and the color looks correct, so it might be decent tasting. My mom said to clean out the hard unground bits with a sieve. I plan on trying Penzeys next.
