Works great, hope it holds up
We got this lock to replace a 4-5 year-old Schlage BE365. It had started to not unlock and we were unable to get it to work again. One thing we learned in fiddling around with the old lock was that when Schlage says to use an alkaline battery, it's not just a suggestion. You need to use an alkaline battery. We've had this new lock in place for a little over a month now. During this time it has worked flawlessly. That being said, we are mindful of the reviews that have noted sudden failure, in one case after only 6 months. If it pulls this with us, I'll be back with an updated review. For now, so far so good. The Positives - Seems well built, and has a high rating for break-in resistance - Installation was painless. When I scanned the provided QR code the installation instructions popped right up and were so clear and simple that even I had no trouble following them. - Operation is smooth and the keypad is responsive - The ios app, while basic, gets the job done. - Battery life seems reasonable. After a month+ of light use, the app is showing 93% remaining The Negatives - None so far. The only thing we are worried about is how well it will hold up over time. Quite happy with this purchase.

Perfect for STR airbnb operators.
I've been using the Schlage WiFi Smart Lock for my Airbnb, and it's been the best smart lock I've tried. Installation was quick and easy, and the Airbnb integration works flawlessly. Guest access codes are automatically created before check-in and deactivated after checkout, saving me time and eliminating manual updates. Battery life has also been excellent. If you're looking for a reliable, hassle-free smart lock that syncs seamlessly with Airbnb.

Great smart lock. Better than Kevo 2nd Gen
This Schlage Decode lock is great! I owned the Kevo 2nd Gen previous to this but the Kevo was problematic and did not have as many nice features like this. I'm going to compare the 2 so you know the pros and cons of both. Schlage: Con: You have to get it rekeyed at Lowe's or HD if you want it rekeyed. Or you have to get a special kit and then you can rekey. Not as simple as Kwikset's simple rekey technology. Standing on the outside, I open my door inward and my door swings to the right. When first installed, the thumbturn seemed to not fully turn to thrust the deadbolt fully into the lock strike-plate. It turns out, you have to turn on the phone app and then enter the preprogrammed lock combination on the lock panel. Then a note will appear on the phone app to ask to proceed. After telling the App to proceed, the Schlage door lock will open and close and then the thumbturn will function properly. Pro: LOTS. Lock is quiet and smooth in it's operation of thrusting and retracting the deadbolt. WiFi remote ability included. It pairs with my WiFi router easily since the door location has great signal. I can operate this lock from anywhere in the world using the phone app as long as my phone has internet capability. To operate this lock at the lock itself, locking is simply pushing the lock icon button on the lock's numbered panel. You can also assign multiple access digit codes on the lock number panel for different people. As a result, everyone can choose his own number code to operate the lock and the App will show who opened and closed the lock based on which codes were used. Takes only a few seconds to enter the number code to open the door and kids love doing this. You can also program it to lock automatically from 30 secs to 4 minutes after it's been unlocked. I set it to 4 minutes in case I forget to lock my door; it automatically locks in 4 minutes. 30 seconds is too short because I sometimes need to get something from my garage or patio and I don't want the lock to automatically lock so quickly. Four minutes is plenty of time to go out to do a short errand around the house. It also comes with a real backup key which I hide but have access externally in case the battery runs out or the electronics malfunction. Some of the smart locks don't have backup mechanical key function and this in my mind is dangerous. Sure, you can put a 9 volt battery to power the lock and it will solve the low internal battery problem but what if the electronics are defective? And who stores a 9 volt battery outside just in case the lock's battery goes too low? Speaking of batteries, the Schlage App shows the actual battery strength. So far, I've used the lock heavily for 1 week and the battery percentage went down 1% so a set of 4 batteries should last 6 months to 1 year. Also, to change the battery, the cover just pulls up and the battery is quickly and easily changed. I really like this Schlage lock. Kevo 2nd Gen - Pro: Can be re-keyed easily. Yes, you can re-key it to use your old keys by just turning the key while in the lock, pushing in a flat metal tool, removing old key, inserting new key, and turning lock. Simple, fast, and easy. Con: Noisier than Schlage when it mechanically moves the deadbolt. Con: Kevo App doesn't tell what the battery strength is, unlike the Schlage. To change the battery, 3 screws must be removed and the faceplate must be removed and then the battery can be changed. Too big of a hassle when you have to do this monthly. Must use a smart Phone to unlock Kevo and be nearby since it only uses bluetooth. You have to be less than 20 ft to remotely open/lock the Kevo. To use wifi, you have to buy a Wifi adapter costing about $100 extra. No code access. There is no number panel on lock so anyone without a phone cannot open the door without a key. As a result, my 10 year old could never unlock the door. To open, the Kevo app must be opened on the phone and you can remotely open the lock if you are less than 20 ft away since it uses bluetooth. Or if the app is opened in the background, you can touch the "rose face-plate" of the Kevo and it unlocks. However, sometimes this doesn't work and I would have to use the app to remotely open it or even just use the key. The Kevo is not as reliable as the Schlage and there is no number panel to key directly to the Kevo in case remote operation doesn't work.. So just spend a little more money and get a Schlage Decode. It provides all the features I want in a smart lock and is reliable in it's operation. Also, make sure the deadbolt travels into the strikeplate easily, without resistance. Otherwise, it's requires more energy (shortens battery life) and lock may jam.

FInally a great Nest Yale replacement
Easy installation, fit right into my old Nest Yale slots. Love how easy and intuitive the app is. I've set combos and schedules for pet sitters, family and friends. The best part is, my old Nest Yale lock constantly lost connection, but the Schlage connects directly to my wifi without a hub and so far has been very solid and responsive. One thing to be aware of, the numbers are very sensitive touchpad keys, so don't press on them too hard or it won't be as responsive.

Total Trash
Got the lock and installed it. The directions are straight forward. Locked worked great the first day. Some things to note. โข The hole where the bolt goes into the door was too small for this lock, so I had to make it a little bigger even though I had just removed another Schlage lock from the hole. โข The screw holes on the striker plate for the frame side of the door did not line up with existing holes. They send you two plats but neither worked so I had to leave my old plate there. Couldn't drill new holes because the old ones were too close. โข During installation of the lock itself you put the number pad in place from the outside and then attach a plate to the number pad from the inside. Don't over tighten the screws on the plate. Tighten them just enough to keep the key pad from moving around. If you over tighten you will find the screws to attach the inside part of the lock are too short. Now for the problem I really have. On day two my app, I am using the Schlage app, says I have no locks. I can unlock and lock the door by hand and I get notices on my phone, but I cannot use the app to lock or unlock the door or add new pass codes. Good thing I wasn't depending on the phone app to let anyone in the house. At this point I will never be able to rely on the lock for that issue. I attempted to reconnect the phone app to the lock, but the lock just flashes a red light and beeps. Right now, I honestly would not recommend this lock to anyone who will ever rely on using the phone app to open the door. If you just want a push button deadbolt then it appears to work for that. In my opinion having that luxury is certainly not worth $250. Little more information on steps I took to rectify this problem. Other than calling the Schlage folks for help. Oh, I did that too, but they will only help you during their business hours and that happens to be when I am at work myself. Also, donโt try their website troubleshooting because that just runs you in circles. โข Deleted and reinstalled the app. Could not connect. โข While following the directions on the app I randomly pushed the button on the inside of the battery pack. The phone actually paired with the lock but the lock would not connect to my WiFi so I could not proceed. โข Factory reset the lock and repeated the steps of connecting including pushing the button on the battery compartment. Connected to the phone but no Wifi. โข Removed and replaced the battery and reset the lock. Still no Wifi. โข Provided my user information to my son who downloaded the app on his Android. He followed the directions on his app and everything worked great. Even though the app shows I have no lock paired with my phone I still get messages when someone locks and unlocks the door. Strange things. Since the lock and app are completely unreliable I will be sending it back. Oh, and why does the app need to have access to my location? That in not information that is relevant to me operating a lock. ****Update**** The lock magically reappeared in the app after being gone for two days. I guess they updated the app to fix the WiFi problem. I will continue to use the lock and app up to the point where I am out of time to return the lock. At that point if everything is still working I will come back and update my rating. For now Iโm keeping it at 1 star. ****Update II**** I have been using the lock since it started working again. I have not had issues since. My wife actually purchased a second one and we now have on on the front and back door. They both have worked mostly flawlessly since the app was updated. ****Update III**** This thing is the biggest piece of crap. I have had this lock installed for about 8 months now. I have the issues listed above. The lock sucks down batteries is constantly losing connection with my family's phones and now it has completely stopped working. Oh and be ready to reset the lock and reconnect it EVERY time you have to change batteries. Update: lock died after 5 yrs. If you have $200 to spend on a digital lock and the convenience is worth it to you go for it. For me, a $200 lock should last a long time. I had 2 of these locks. One failed just inside the warranty window and Schlage replaced it. The other died in 5 years and Schlage will do nothing.

A full-featured smartlock with one minor issue
Overall I am very happy with this lock, and would give it a 5-star rating except for one thing. The lock was very easy to install since I was replacing a traditional Schlage deadbolt, so all the required dimensions were satisfied. The step-by-step installation video was very clear and helpful. Setting up the Schlage app on my phone and configuring the lock was also super easy, and I'm very happy with all the features. The only thing I'm less than thrilled about is the visibility of the keypad. As you can see from the photo, even in relatively normal lighting the keypad numbers aren't very visible. Pressing the "home" button in the lower left corner of the panel does nicely illuminate all the numbers, but if it's dark you might need to shine a light on the keypad just to find and press that button. Though if you're the owner it's pretty easy to simply remember to press first in the lower left corner of the otherwise dark panel, to illuminate the panel, before keying in your code. Not a show stopper, but now I'm thinking that the Arrive, with its raised buttons, might have been a better choice. Regardless, this lock is straightforwardly managed remotely using the smartphone app, provides all kinds of alerts (which can be individually enabled or disabled), and also provides a record of locking and unlocking. I don't AirBnB my home, but I can see how this lock could be perfect for a host, since you can quickly and easily change codes, and provide special codes to a variety of individuals who need limited access to the property.

Works really well, even if it's expensive
I've had this lock for over a year now. It was expensive and I told my wife we really didn't need it. But she insisted, saying it was easier for the kids and it had a lot of useful features. Well, I hate to admit it, but she was right. Although this unit was expensive, we trusted the Schlage brand. We have a lot of other locks in the house made by schlage. It's high quality and durable. As long as we've owned this lock, I have not had any wifi drop or disconnects. There has been zero issues with codes not working. Even my app on my phone has worked 100% of the time. I wish my other wifi-enabled appliance devices worked this good. The feature I like the most is being able to set temporary codes. On my old lock, I had extra keys made for both my parents, both my in-laws, one each for my kids, one for each of my car keys, a couple extras I can give the neighbors in case I went on vacation, and so on. There were so many keys floating around I couldn't even keep track of who still had keys to my house. With this lock, If I'm out on vacation, I can set a temporary door code for my neighbors to help grab mail and packages. If I'm not home and my family or friends need to pick something up, I can give them a temporary code to get into my house. I can delete it manually or set it up to expire from the app. It's easy and takes less only a few seconds to do. I never have to worry about getting my keys back or someone losing them. It also notifies me immediately when someone uses a key code. Since I've had this lock, I haven't had to worry about my kids losing keys or being locked out. We paired this up with Alexa and a Ring camera so I can even remotely unlock if the kids get locked out. Now we only have a few codes for ourselves and the kids. If our parents need to get in, they can call and we let them in. No more keys floating around.

In love with this product! Opening an Airbnb? Get this!
My son got this for his Airbnb and raved about how it took all the work out of worrying about a key for the guests. Airbnb sets the code and sends it to the guest and you don't have to do any of it! Works like a charm and an app on your phone will show you when the door is opened or closed. Lots of flexibility to set separate codes for people that you want to give access to your home. Easy for even a non-tech person like myself to use. My son installed it in about 20 minutes! It was well worth the extra money. As I mentioned I am in love with it!

Love this lock!
After much research, I finally bit the bullet and bought a Schlage Encode, and I'm so glad I did. I love this lock! Installation instructions (especially the online interactive instructions) made it easy to install, although I did have to make a few minor modifications because it didn't quite retrofit to my old lock fittings. Now that it is installed, everything seems to be working perfectly. The Schlage Home app makes it super easy to lock/unlock the door (great to do from the car when you have an armload of shopping or from bed if you're not sure the door is locked), set up user codes for specific dates and times (which I need for my Airbnb guests) and notify me when the door is locked and unlocked. It can be set up to automatically lock or not after the door is open (great for when people leave to ensure the door is locked). I'm so happy not to have to take my key with me when going out. Definitely worth the price.

I love it
I had door installers put these on a new door for me (not a locksmith). Then I had someone else set it up for me. The app works great, takes only 1-2 seconds to respond. I was a little lost at first but the guide on Schlage's blog helped me out a lot. Easy to set up new users and virtual keys. Love it! It looks really pretty too ^_^ I bought mine with the matching handle and interior door levers :)
