Review: Great Item Still and update - Very easy to read, set, reset (change batteries), and presents pretty accurate temperatures. Easy to mount, looks nice, handy in our RV (and the 2nd unit in our bedroom, to add to the others we have in our house). I will be setting the remote outside in the shade, in a freezer type zip-lock baggie, and try not to forget it (I have a set of reminders (highly recommended) from Camping World that I place on my steering wheel, called 'RV Minders', which are great). I wish desertcart carried these. It functions well and I have experience with several LaCrosse units in my house (and other types); Atomic clocks, Sky Scan and Oregon Scientific. Nothing new here. Most people forget how to program and reset but I do this 1-2 times a year for all (6) of my remote units. Also, mixed, old, or cold batteries affect these negatively. I do not recommend Lithium batteries (like Energizer) or rechargables, for any units like this. I recommend Costco Kirkland batteries. This unit works very well despite bad reviews! Just read the instructions and understand them and get some experience. Expect any device like this to give you 'an idea' of the temperatures, but do not look for ACCURACY unless you spend hundreds or thousands of dollars. Even AccuWeather, or, The Weather Channel, is not exact, and all of the weather channels and gadgets can vary quite a bit, especially since their sensors are located in different places (can be miles apart) i.e. North Hollywood, CA, temps. can be sensed from Burbank, Van Nuys, L.A. or even hot Woodland Hills. Most of the bad reviewers have poor expectations or lack experience in using these devices. One does not get 'accurate' with 'inexpensive', and, you do not hire technicians to adjust your settings or set these up for you. 'So what' if it is off 3 degrees, if it is around 20 it is cold, if around 90 it is hot? If you are around 70-80 it is going to be comfortable. The temperature, and barometric pressure, can vary a lot in just 100 yards, or in sun, or shade!! A major internet weather station takes our temperature reading from the nearest airport, 20 miles away in a valley, which varies a lot from our temperature near the mountains, locally. Expect an 'idea' of the temperature, not 'accuracy', and these will work fine. And, save the instructions for resets when you change batteries (change the remote first). Protect the remote from rain, wind, sprinklers, and damage. I bought a second unit in July 2013 and it works great! I made changes above. Both units have easy-to-access batteries; no small screws - thumb slides or latches, which are quick and easy. Some other units have small screws to remove. I recommend freezer zip-lock bags to protect them.
Review: Why I gave the La Crosse Digital Thermometer a 1 Star and hope to end up changing it to a 5 Star - Right now I am giving this a 1 star. I purchased the digital thermometer and two senors. New Duracell alkaline batteries were used. All three units synced perfectly and the temperature readings were big and bold. Exactly what I wanted to measure the temperatures in the garage, attic and the outdoors. I was very happy. Two weeks into the installation, the screen on the temperature reader went dark. I could sill see the sensor readings on the screen but they were very faint. I emailed La Crosse Tech and asked how long batteries were to last. I was told from 12 to 18 months. I replaced all the batteries in the three units with new Energizer alkaline batteries.. Once again all three synced and worked perfectly. I re-installed the sensors in their spot and everything looked good. I was happy once more. A week in to the re-installation, the temperature reader stopped giving the temperature readings of the sensors. Where the sensor readings were on the reader were now black bars. I watch for about three days and the sensors never connected back to the thermometer reader. About three days into watching the reader to see if the sensors eventually connected, an "RX" appeared on the screen of the reader. I looked up what "RX" meant. It meant that the batteries in the sensors were low. I was discouraged. Not in a million years was I going to climb into the attic to get one of the sensors, buy new batteries for the three units and re-install every couple weeks. I called La Crosse and told them what was happening. I was giving a Service Ticket number to have all three units sent back to the company to see what was wrong. I just got back from the Post Office where I mailed back the units to La Crosse at a cost of $4.00. If and when I get the temperate reader and two sensors back and they work as they should, I will be excited. And I will log back into desertcart and change my 1 Star rating to 5 Star. ------------------------------------------ 12/01/13 I received the temperature reader and two sensors back from La Crosse on 11/27/13. In the package was a note stating that the two sensors checked out to be working. The temperature reader was bad. The reader was replaced. I synced both sensors with the new reader. They synced and worked perfectly. All three are in place and working. Now to see if they last more than two weeks. -------------------------------------------- 12/22/13 The replacement reader has been working perfectly for a month. I really like this unit and so glad that it is working perfectly, exactly what I hoped for. I am changing my rating to a Five Star from the One Star that originally rated.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: does it work in very cold weather, negative degrees**
A: We live in Texas. It was fine for 4 years until our first cold front came in 2 weeks ago. We went down to 60 F when the sensor stopped working. I ordered a new sensor with amazon. That one stopped working after 3 days when the next cold front came in at 55 F. What a terrible waste of money. I'll be calling La Crosse on Monday.

**Q: is it accurate**
A: Hi Linda. Mine appears to be within 1°F. Plenty good enough to monitor the weather. As a standard, I have a 14" Fisher mercury in glass laboratory thermometer accurate to 1/4°F, which I trust. I use two display stations (upstairs and downstairs) running off one outdoor transmitter. They both read exactly the same at all times and are now about 2 years old. Hope this is helpful. Don

**Q: What is the thickness measurement of the outdoor sensor? I live in an apartment and must place it between a window and a screen.**
A: Here are the measurements: 3/4" (at 'hanger' end) to 5/8" thick (main body of sensor). it is 5" high and 1.5' wide. It would certainly fit between the window and the screen; however, my husband says you may not get a true temperature reading because it would pick up the heat from the window even though it is outside. Can you put it on the window sill on the outside of the screen? That is where I have ours and it works fine. Has not fallen off our brick window sill even though it is slightly slanted. Hope this helps....

**Q: can you hang from wall?**
A: Yes. It has a slot with a hole in the bottom, (sort of like an upside-down keyhole) to slip over a screwhead and slide down to hold in place. Sorry about the description, hope it isn't too confusing. In short it would be very simple to hang on a wall.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ mostly good
*by B***K on April 15, 2023*

This is the second one of these I've purchased, so clearly I like it. We've had the first one for several years now and it is still working great. I got this new one for use in our travel trailer. What I like: We wanted an indoor-outdoor thermometer that also has a clock. This one shows the temperatures and time with a big clear font. Other options we saw add in the humidity and various other weather-related data, which clutters up the screen and makes it hard to read. The readability of this unit is excellent. Setting up the unit is straightforward. What I don't like: This one rattles. There is some bit of loose plastic somewhere in the case. Not a big deal since it works fine - just thought I'd mention it. Another problem is that we want to attach the base unit to the wall. The back has a triangular-shaped indent, which fits over a screw in the wall. Unfortunately, there's no slot that you can pull the screw into, which would normally give a firm attachment to the wall. Instead, the unit just kind of hangs there. This will be a problem in our RV since the unit will fall off when we hit the first bump in the road. If you're not planning to mount it to the wall, there is an easy-to-use kick stand that folds out and holds the unit upright.
