Works as expected
I needed to upgrade my home network switch to a 16 port. I still have mostly Gigabit devices and a few 100Mbps devices (laser printers and several smart Televisions). Network usage for my little file and media server is generally limited to computer backups and movie access (for two people) so 1000 is still acceptable. Ninety percent of devices are wired and only 3 mobile devices access the network wirelessly through a mesh system. For the most part, basic Gigabit speed is sufficient but we have outgrown the old 8 port unmanaged switch. This Dlink switch is one of the least expensive unmanaged switches available. It is powered by a small power adapter so it most likely consumes very little power. Everything was plug and play and I did not encounter any issues during installation. This is a rackmount style switch so it has mounting "wings" or brackets that can be attached to both sides of the device. The item arrived brand new and sealed but unfortunately, one of the brackets was missing from the box. I contacted dlink support and they simply told me to contact Amazon. I contacted Amazon and they told me to return the switch and a new replacement would be sent. I felt this was a waste because, at this point, the switch was already installed and fully operational. Sending it back would probably take a few days of additional downtime. I also felt bad because Amazon would probably trash this perfectly good item. I tried explaining this to one Amazon support staff and he understood the issue. We found similar 3rd party brackets on Amazon for about $12 so instead of sending the functioning unit back, he simply gave me a credit that enabled me to purchase the compatible bracket. Problem solved! As far as functionality, the switch performs as expected. I have 2 smaller switches downstream and as much as I would have preferred not to daisy-chain switches, this was unavoidable. Despite this, connection speeds are well within the expected 920-950+Mbps counting overhead.

Has an External Power Adapter - aka block
Was totally caught off guard to see this huge side mount block inside the box. Needed it for rackmount and as ANYONE who has a rackmount, these are a total pain in the butt. Returned - I can't fit this damn power in my power bar as I have no space. Totally disappointed.

Perfect home medium sized home networks
I have a few home servers, some home pcs, game consoles, and access points totaling about 12 wired devices and it has no issues providing full gigabit, it’s been running on 240v just chilling for about a month now and it’s never been warm or crashed in any way.
