Feel supportive and comfortable
Have just received these boots after having sent back a size 5.5 and 6.0 which didn't fit. I usually wear a US size 5.0 or 5.5 in a trainer on my UK size 3 foot. They were a bit short so have now gone up to a US size 6.5. They feel comfortable and supportive but so light. They are also a bit wider as well as longer but they do not feel loose and my heel stays put when walking so would seem to be a good fit. Will be wearing them to Nepal in October / November so will be able to give a better review after they've been used in the field. Certainly feel up to the job and don't feel like they need a major breaking in period. Update 17/11/11 post trek Have just returned from our Mardi Himal trek in the Annapurna region of Nepal. The right boot pressed a little on my right ankle, discovered before commencing the trek. A couple of pieces of moleskin around my bony prominence and the boots were so comfortable I only took them off to go to bed. The locking hook for the lace was a bonus as I broke a finger before the trek and would have had a problem doing the laces up properly without the hook. Were supportive around the ankles without restricting movement. Didn't actually wade through water but the boots got pretty wet going through forested areas and shallow streams and we scrubbed them in the shower at the end of the trek but they stayed dry inside. Grip seemed to be very good. Some slipping on the very smooth, wet rocks but I can't imagine any boot gripping that sort of surface. My husband also had a pair of these boots which he didn't bother breaking them in at all. Wore them for travelling and the trek, totally loves them. So sturdy, supportive and comfortable. We will buy the same if still available when we need replacements. As his were $99 to my $129 from Altrec were also good value for money.

Rugged and comfortable
Love these boots. I bought them for a trip to the PNW and they did not disappoint. They hiked around the base of Mt. Ranier, along Hurricane Ridge, through the Hoh Rainforest and strolled along Ruby Beach. They also made the hike to the top of Multnomah Falls and down again. Kept my feet dry and warm. The tread is perfectly grippy and I even tried to slip and slide on the wet rocks and it was impossible. 10/10 would but again.

Order half size up for length. Width is ample.
So happy with these boots and that’s saying a lot since I have so many foot problems. It’s always worrisome to buy shoes online so I’ll try to describe these best I can. First of all I won’t be making any 20 mile hikes. I’m over 70 and need boots to allow for my farm chores and bad weather, not mountain climbing, but if these work for me, how much better for those who are young and spry. I’ve overweight and my feet tend to swell quite a bit, plus I have fused big toe joints. I can no longer get tall boots on at all and even regular tennies can pose a problem if I can’t open them wide. I need a big toe box and decent width, but have narrow heels. I need a cushiony insole, but also arch support (flat feet), low heel to toe height ratio and a rocker bottom to help with my stride because of bad ankles. It seems an impossible set of requirements. So it was with great trepidation that I ordered these boots. Pretty much all I can wear anymore is what my grandchildren call my ‘Air Grammas’, thick leather New Balance shoes with a wide tongue and stabilizing sole. Boots and shoes I could wear previously have been relegated to the back of the closet. These include Mephisto walkers and Timberland and Ariat boots among others. Heels too high, tongues too narrow, not enough flexibility or too much, you name it. These boots offer easy on/off while even having an attached tongue to aid in waterproofing. The toe box is ample and the width good, but you have to order a half size up for length. I did that and they are perfect. Even though the toe box width is generous, the heel is narrow enough to eliminate slippage. The built-in ankle stabilization is very helpful and the modified rocker bottom makes walking relatively easy for me, which is quite something. Few boots offer that. The padded ankle collar and height is very comfortable. The sole at the heel is not much higher than that at the toe which also makes walking easier for me. The sole is sturdy, but flexible at the same time. The mid-foot support is surprisingly good for my flat feet and although I often replace insoles with orthotics or other insoles to help my various problems, the ones that come in these boots are great just as they are. Normally I wear a 9B although on some shoes the B is too tight. That’s a problem with my narrow heels because a wide width affects heel width too. I bought these in 9.5B and they are perfect. I kept the packing, so sure was I that I’d have to return the boots, but it can all go out now. There will be no return. Very happy indeed.

Great Hiking Boot - Would Buy Again!
I live and work in Yellowstone National Park so I am on my feet and out hiking and backpacking in all types of terrain and weather. I have had these hiking boots for about 4 years now and they have held up great. See photos. Pros: I have plantar fasciitis and have to have hiking boots with good arch support and since switching to these, no more foot pain. I love the wider toe box as my foot is a bit wide and it gives my foot more space in the front when hiking on inclines where your foot tends to slip forward. They are waterproof and I have never ended up with wet feet when wearing them. I also love that you can order inserts to replace the old ones. Cons: The inserts tend to hold odor and I have had to replace them a couple of times. They cost around $30-$40 per pair. The hiking boots are a bit heavy and can result in a bit of foot fatigue on long backcountry hikes. The outside and sole have held up much better than any previous hiking boots I have owned but the inside is a bit worn. Some of the threading on the exterior is also starting to fray a bit. Overall, I highly recommend these for anyone with plantar fasciitis or anyone looking for a durable and comfortable hiking boot.

Love these Keen boots!
I had a pair of Keen Targhee boots that lasted forever - like 10-12 years. The only reason I ordered these is because I wanted a bit more room to wear thicker socks and I liked the color of these. They are so cute! And, they are very comfortable and sturdy. They don't smell weird and the sole is nice and rugged. They are pretty lightweight and are waterproof. I got my husband and son to buy some of the men's Keen boots and they love theirs, too.

GREAT pick over Durand (and others) for FIVE - possibly 7- REASONS!
I bought these instead of Keen's Durand style for two reasons - because a previous reviewer noted the Durand weren't roomy enough (or insole removable) to accommodate different insoles AND because they were lighter in weight than the Durand style. I'm quite please so far! A few things that make them especially nice for me (but may not work for others): FIT - as recommended by almost everyone, order *at least* a 1/2 size larger than typical. I already do this in running shoes, so it was any different for me to do this on these. (For example, I can wear anything from a 4.5 to 5 (35 EU is ideal) if I want sandles or heels to fit and not slide, but in "regular" shoes, I go up to a 5.5 and in running shoes, I'm a clear 6 in Nike's and New Balance and apparently, these). There is not only plenty of room for my toes to not bump the front in 1/2 size up, but also plenty of room for insole insertion... INSOLES - I have very high arches and am currently dealing with plantar fasciitis in one foot. So this was huge for me. Not only are the insoles here easily removable, they are actually pretty decent quality... meaning, if I wasn't dealing with fasciitis, I'd probably have kept them in. As a comparison, I inserted the "pinkberry" from SuperFeet brand inserts and there was no noticeable different between those "special" insoles and the ones Keen already puts in the boot. FURTHER, I was worried my super-high arch ones wouldn't fit, because they're so stiff, but I easily (without even trimming, in my case!) replaced them with the SofSole high-arch inserts (available at sporting stores) with no problem. ANKLES - I have very tiny ankles and so worried these wouldn't properly hug them. But the snugness is so perfect on these without being tight that I actually feel like I'm wearing a little armor around my ankles. LACES - I *despise* round laces for always coming untied no matter how many (and how) times I tie them. And so despite all hiking boots having them for strength/durability issues, I planned on replacing these as soon as they came, with typical flat laces (okay, I also wanted to insert prettier laces too). However, the two hooks on the upper ankle that you round before you tie the lace? They are rubberized and slightly expand - so your laces don't actually move! I even pulled the loops at the top of the footbed as I was loosening them up and they wouldn't budge until I removed the laces from the hooks! It's that good! This may wear out over time, but for now, it's impressive enough that I'm not even going to replace the laces yet! TREAD - The picture online didn't show very well how deep the tread would be on these, but it's satisfyingly deep enough to actually make a difference in hiking up tall hills, mud, and slippery leaves. I have not yet determined how quickly the tread gets gunked/filled up (or how easily the mud falls out) to prevent grip, but I"ll update later on that. I'll update on the following after testing: *WATERPROOFING: As I got the leather version, I'll be spraying waterproofer over it, even though it's already supposed to be waterproof (as you'd do with any camping gear). *TOE STRENGTH: I'll be kicking stones and such to test not only how strong the toes remain, but also how much the foot moves around inside when the toe is exerted.

Comfortable from the start
Not the most "sexy" looking boots, for sure, but definitely great for hiking the awesome national parks! When I first put them on, they seemed a little bulky. However, the "bulk" is what actually made them so comfortable. They have a bit wider toe box, which I like, but still fit my narrower ankles just fine. They required no break-in period. I used the insoles that came with the boots and they worked well, which is great for someone like me who has issues with plantar fasciitis and other foot pain. Though my feet were a bit "heavy" after 8+ hour hiking days, I had no pain. These boots also seem waterproof. Only time I felt actual water was after stepping in a creek that was deeper than expected and water went over the top of the boot (totally my fault). Otherwise, I walked through some pretty thick mud, moderate puddles, and shallow creek beds and they worked well. Good traction. Not sure how they'd do in deep snow, but I'm not sure these are made for that since they are only mid-height anyway? The rounded toe is pretty ugly, but I was quite thankful for the rubberized protection when walking over rocks and boulders. Definitely recommend these boots. You get what you pay for, and these are worth it. And these are true to size. I wear a size 11 ladies in both running shoes and tennis shoes, and I ordered a size 11 in these...perfect fit.

Where company policy gets in the way of customer service...
The Keene Targhee 2s have been my go-to boots for well over a decade. They fit me perfectly. Lightweight, great on rocks, feels as comfortable as a sneaker. Moreover, they are literally the only shoes I wear. Well, unless I am going out, which is not often!I spend most of my time in the woods. My last pair was ordered on May 3, 2024. In early June, the lace strap broke. Amazon was unable to accept a return, so I contacted the Keene Customer Service department. I made multiple submissions without hearing anything back. I finally contacted a Keene rep by phone; sent her the photo of the broken lace and the Amazon invoice. She informed me that she was unable to effect help other than to send me over to the warranty department. When I asked her how long I was looking at for a new pair of boots, she indicated that it would be several weeks. I responded that these were the only shoes that I wear, and that I was going to have to buy a new pair of boots to replace the defective Keenes; and why can't she just overnight me a pair? Well, policy won't allow that, even though she was looking at the photo of the defective boot and the invoice. The warranty submission process was actually appalling, and I was shocked how difficult they made it. I have heard nothing back from them after 5 days. I am not expecting much. A classic situation where a great company gets too big and forgets about their fans who have been devoted to their product. Time to find a new brand. See ya Keene! Skye Reno

BEST BOOTS I HAVE EVER OWNED - no exaggeration.
These just arrived (two days after ordering them with regular shipping -- thank you Amazon!), and they are on my feet as I write this review. They are SOOO freecking comfy. They feel like the comfiest sneakers only with killer good hiking boot support. I bought hiking socks to go with them and the combination is incredible. As I read reviews suggesting to buy a half size up I did that (Ordered a 9 when normally I'd be a 8.5 Wide) and that was excellent advise, plus lots of room for socks. Excellent arch support, lightweight, loads of support everywhere, very secure lacing system, easy to put on, they look amazing on, and they feel great with no foot shifting when I walk if you tie them properly. Have I said I love these boots??? These boots are my first KEEN product, and I am sold on this brand. They are (so far) worth every cent spent, and even there the price was very reasonable for excellent hiking boots. The description says the treads are SUV tires for your feet and they were not kidding! I am visually impaired so I need very safe footwear and outdoor gear, and these will be more than excellent for any hiking, trecking, or just walking to do chores etc I may have coming. Living on Vancouver Island in British Columbia Canada (west coast!) there is everything to do outdoors, and now I feel better equipped to take on the next mountain trail or waterfall hike my husband and I come across. Best walking boots ever!
I bought a pair of these boots 3 years ago to go walking in the Grand Canyon and they are perfect for my rather wide feet. I've bought many other, fairly expensive, brands which all seem to have a pointy toe shape, and they always gave me blisters as my toes were too squashed together. These boots are, quite simply, the best! They have a rounder shaped, wide toe area which my feet love. There are clips near the ankle which hold the laces while you tie them - very useful. Just like my older Keens, I wore these boots without having to "wear them in" and as with my older ones, sheer comfort and no blisters! As suggested, you do need to buy a half size bigger than your normal shoe size. I am a regular walker and these boots have never let me down, even in wet conditions my feet have remained dry and comfortable. If you have wide feet, these boots will be perfect for you. I hope that Keen will continue to make the Targhee ll as these are the ones I will always buy. My first ones are still going strong, these are new and will last a few years, but I may even buy myself another pair, just to make sure I always have them!
