The hex head wood screw is steel. Thus most rust issues are eliminated. A stainless screw would be nice and all rust would be eliminated..Theses have a spring to keep the shutter from rattling in the wind and the bolt is long enough for real shutters.I bought these for decorative plastic shutters that just screw to the house. As a result the bolts are too long. So as I said this looks like a nice kit for real shutters. Good quality. The "directions" are just a tiny piece of paper with a fuzzy diagram, impossible to understand. I took my time and figured it out. That being said, the "S" portion is wobbly, and I needed to purchase three washer per unit to get the S to fit snugly. However, on the plus side, the units came with a metal bracket which fits behind the shutter and holds it in place. I didn't see this from any competing products.
