Can't get a long document in it without curving or bending it as the top doesn't completely unzip. Would long term storage in bag harm electronics?** A: In the unfortunate event of a fire, most computer components (ie. hard drives), would fail due to the heat exposure alone. As long as you realize this, it may buy you a few extra minutes of time to grab it on your way out. If you have critical, cannot lose info on your backup drive, I would make a 2nd one and store it in a bank safety deposit box, which are adequately temperature controlled (most banks have fire sprinklers which should activate in the event of a fire, so extreme heat would hopefully be avoided or kept to a minimum). I would not use this to store very important docs/drives in a storage facility, though my concern over theft probably outweighs my concern about fire. **Q: I’m making a custom safe and need this to be an exact size. Hypothetically how effective would it be if I cut it shorter and folded over the edges?** A: If you are making a custom safe, why would you not customize the safe to accommodate these (and whatever other items you plan to use it for), rather than trying to customize these bags and risking completely negating their proven effectiveness? Isn’t that one of the top two reasons that someone would build a customized safe: making sure everything you want to put in it fits, and (possibly) because you need to make sure the safe will fit into an already-built & unalterable space? I would think when customizing a safe, you would measure everything you plan to put in it, and customize it accordingly. If I was building a custom safe, I would also want it to be fire and water proof.
