Kreg KBK-IP Kreg Bench Klamp Insert Plate

The photo in the advertisement appears gray but the plate I received is the iconic Kreg blue; however, the plate I received shows machining marks and it was a bit marred and scuffed. This should not affect its functionality but I was a bit dis-made as I have many Kreg products and all are well made and display no manufacturing abnormalities. The plate also comes with drywall screws or machine screws with locking nuts to allow for mounting in a variety of materials and material thicknesses - a plus. I plan to use long wood screws as I will mount the plate into a multi-layered MDF top I am making to fit on top of my tool cabinet. I gave installation three stars as not everyone will have skill or the tools to flush mount the insert as I will in my top.

The mounting screws pull out of the base under pressure.

Another great and innovative product from Kreg. The Bench Klamp is designed with a low profile, out of the way when not in use, type of configuration. It is the perfect solution for clamping and holding down projects that do not require a large and bulky vise. While it can be mounted with minor modifications you your clamping surface, it is best when mortised into the bench. Completely out of the way. You will need to purchase a separate Kreg locking clamp to use this, but the clamp comes with the Kreg Bench Vise, making this the perfect addition. Need to hold something down in the middle of your workbench? Kreg Automaxx clamps will do it. (They're pretty cool. You set the clamping force with a small screw and from then on, it'll clamp varying thicknesses of boards with the same force.) These plates are an easy way to mount the Automaxx clamps to your workbench.To install, you need to route a 3"x4"x1/4" deep cutout. You also need to route a wider groove down the center to accommodate the bolt head on the bottom of the clamp. The clamp can exert quite a bit of force, so the four corner screws need to be set securely in the bench. If not, the clamp can pull the plate upwards as it pushes downwards...I drilled holes and used small bolts and washers to hold it in place. The necessary screws and bolts are supplied with the plate.This is easy to install and simple to use. My kind of tool....

These plates and a couple of Kreg clamps can turn a plain bench into a real work station and when you remove the clamps, there is nothing to protruding from the table. Don't throw out your template after you install the plates. You will soon be finding all sorts of way to use them on other work surfaces.

Installed easily with a router. Ironically it may have been quicker to just use a chisel since there is no set-up time needed that way. Either way it is easy to mount.I like the way the plate sits flush with the top of the workbench. Perfect perch for an AutoMaxx clamp.Hardware included: four drywall screws for wood, four machine bolts with lock nuts for thinner worktops. I used my own number 8 wood screws.I may add a few more plates here and there on my bench for versatility. Definitely pleased.

Added an extra insert on the opposite corner of my assembly table from the first one that came with the clamp. Sometimes it's nice when assembling right and left hands of a face frame to have the mirror image option and it's quick and easy with these clamp plates installed. Takes a few minutes and a bit of care to install these but it's worth the effort. Really helps to have a plunge router and pattern bit. I didn't have a pattern bit so used a guide bushing and made a rectangular pattern jig for it sized appropriately to end up with the right finish dimension. A pattern bit would have been easier... less messing around, but didn't have one on hand. Still, was a great upgrade to my assembly bench.

A must for any workbench, can't imagine life with out them !!!!

Easy to install using a router pattern but and template. Holds my workpieces rich solid to my workbench.
