Simply put, it works as designed.

I have a 2004 Mazda 3 hatchback with the 6-speaker sound and no navigation. This plugged right into the back of the radio and worked without any fiddling. Pulling the radio was a cinch, just search YouTube for a video. When I hit the "CD" button it switches between "CD" and "EX", but the controls otherwise work the same.I bought it just wanting an AUX jack and that works flawlessly. If I charge my phone and listen to music at the same time there is a very slight buzzing, but I have to turn up the volume quite high to hear this. When I'm not charging my phone or just playing music from an SD card I can't hear the buzzing. It has turned out nicer than expected to be able to play MP3s from a memory card. In this case, I'm using an SD card that came free with a camera purchase. This feature works really well and I'm using it a lot more than I thought. It's certainly easier to copy music to the SD card and play it rather than burn CDs. And having it on the memory card means I can navigate the music with the steering wheel controls rather than trying to fiddle with a touch screen while driving (which is to say I DON'T and WON'T change tracks while driving from the phone. I'm not going to kill myself or someone else just to hear a different song. So having the ability to change songs from the radio controls is a great bonus.)It plays MP3s as promised. Mine are all encoded from LAME using VBR and I haven't had a problem playing a file yet. The only screwy thing is making folders "CD01", "CD02", to "CDxx". This makes it a little more manual to copy music (vs. automating it via MediaMonkey or other software). Also, folders "CD07" and higher technically work, but I can't get my radio to navigate to them with the "next disc" or "previous disc" buttons. The buttons only skip between the first 6 folders (or discs if you will). It only plays folders CD07 and higher if you just let the music play on its own. I think it also shuffles those songs. Oddly enough it will display folder 7 properly but skipping discs goes from 6 straight to 1. So I consider this as having 6 folders equating to 6 discs and forget about other folders. That makes it hard to make full use of a large memory card, but it is much better than burning discs.Rather than place it in the glove box, I bought industrial strength Velcro to adhere it to the passenger side of the lower dashboard (i.e. just right of the ventilation controls). This makes the face about even with the front of the dashboard and makes it easy to plug things into it but keeps it out-of-the-way of the passenger's legs. I've been the passenger and I can attest that I don't even notice it's there. All in all I'd say that I should have done this years ago and my only worry is that the part doesn't last. It's obviously not the best construction but I think it'll do.

Great for expanding my car's audio, one caveat...

This works great in my 2005 Mazda 3, stereo recognizes it and works as expected. With one exception; you can't switch between media and AUX without removing the media.I wanted to mount this somewhere I wouldn't need to see it often (behind stereo, in glove box, etc) and fish the aux wire somewhere I could plug it in and use it. But if there is storage media attached, the Aux does not work! The aux only becomes active if no media is present, which means I have to dig in and remove it to switch modes. I was really hoping there would be a way to do this from the stereo!I even tried making a blank 1-hour long MP3 to see if I could play the aux over it, but no luck- the AUX is actually disactivated, no matter what I do, as long as the storage media is present. On the plus side, it seems to remember where I was up to when I put it back in. But I wish there was a way to do that remotely so I could hide this somewhere convenient. Its not necessarily a deal breaker, but I really wish I had known that before buying it- I would have shopped around more first!

4 stars only because of one little issue

I have a 2006 Mazda3 2.0, i installed my self it was easy i have used a USB drive and a SDHC Card both working fine but the unit produces a treeble noise when is not reading the mp3 file. The music quality is ok, not compare to CD quality.
