Quiet and powerful, not too difficult to install
If you are desperately looking for a new garbage disposal for a DIY installation, do yourself a favor and try this one out! I am not a professional plumber but I could set this up myself.. not without any trouble though. It wasn't this garbage disposal that was giving me the trouble, it was removing the old unit that took me longer than expected. I had a common 3 bolt type disposal and taking it out had me use more force than I anticipated. But eventually I could take it out with the help of the two screwdrivers and a piler. Be careful not to damage your pipes and kitchen sink when you remove your old unit. Be sure to disconnect the pipes first before twisting your old unit out or you could end up damaging the pipes before the installation even begins. Anyway, back to the product review, the instructions were clear, and it fits perfectly into the kitchen sink. It's compact and much thinner than my old unit. The quietness of this machine is impressive, it is so much quieter compared to my old unit. I was provided with all the tools I needed except for one, which is plumber putty, you will need to purchase that to seal the gap between the sink and the disposal to prevent water leaks. You can follow the instructions manual it provided but I would recommend watching the video on YouTube "How to replace a garbage disposal by LRN2DIY" He uses exactly the same brand but just different HP, but instructions are pretty much the same. Highly recommended! If a first time like me can do it, you can too!

Good buy - recommend to most people compact but a bit noise
Waste King L-1001 Legend Series 1/2 HP Continuous Feed Operation Waste Disposer This is a great product and I can highly recommend it. There are pros and cons like everything else: Pros: compact size, easy to install, ships with everything you'll need in the box, removable splash guard, reset button located in the front of unit, 3 prong power cord, 2 year warranty. Cons: Somewhat noise during operation, not a direct replacement to other brands mount assembly, does not have the wrench hole on the bottom in case it ever jams (will need to use a wood spoon or broom handle if ever happens). The box comes with everything you'll need to install it, including a rubber gasket for S.S. sinks. I found it very easy to install and I'm very satisfied with the final result. Initially I planned to buy a unit that I could re-use the mount assembly that is already installed on the sink but removing the old one and cleaning up was the part that took longer. Installing the new one was a breeze - no plumber putty needed if installing on S.S. sinks. The unit comes wired with a three prong power cord - you'll need an switched outlet under the sink and I recommend it. My house had a direct wire from the wall to the old disposer and I just installed a box with an outlet on it. It gives you peace of mind to unplug the disposer anytime you drop something inside it and need to get your hand there to remove the object. This unit will mount a bit higher than my old one under the sink so the discharge elbow pipe (included) will be about 2 inches high but it still fit with my old plumbing without any changes. THIS UNIT IS NOT SOUND INSULATED, THEREFORE THE SMALL SIZE. It is noisier than my old one with a low frequency rumble but I find the tradeoff between space saving under the sink and the 5 seconds noise acceptable. If you are worried about that look for the larger sound insulated units instead and you won't have any worries. This unit does not have that Allen wrench hole on the bottom in case it jams. The manual recommends to remove the splash guard - it slides right on and off - and use a broom handle to clear the jam. I found the removable splash guard a nice touch - it can look bad after a while and it is easy to order a $3 replacement and just slide it in. You can also easily remove it to fit your hand inside to pick something you dropped there. It also comes with a stopper included in the box. The mount assembly (the black part on the picture that connects to the sink) is made of hard plastic, however the part that is visible inside the sink has a S.S. top metal ring built in. It looks and feels of very good quality. The reset button is located in front of the unit, very easy to reach in case it ever pops out. The whole package comes in a box without any messy foam; an excellent English/Spanish/French paper manual included, 800 number in case of installation doubts and even on-line video of the installation on the manufacturer website. You may or may not use it with a dishwasher, just remove the plug if you want to install the dishwasher discharge hose. Overall, I'm satisfied and well recommend this unit to most households where sound during the operation is not an issue. Strong and reliable, just a little loud
I've been using this for a few years now and it has held up really well. Installation was straightforward and it came with everything needed to get it up and running quickly. The power is impressive, strong enough to handle pretty much anything you throw at it without jamming or struggling, and the functionality has been flawless since day one. No odors coming from the sink either which is always a good sign. The one downside is the noise. It's louder than I expected, not the end of the world but definitely something you notice every time you flip the switch. If noise is a concern for you just keep that in mind. For the price though you're getting a solid, reliable disposal that gets the job done year after year. Worth it.

Great Value
I bought the used in "new" condition and saved another $15 or so dollars. Came in a Factory sealed box and if it was used you couldn't tell, even the parts in the plastic bag were unopened. Installed yesterday, very easy to do. If your installing in a stainless steel sink all gaskets are included, if other than SS you'll need some plumbers putty. I suggest to install the "easy mount" system included, just a few more steps involved and avoids having to buy the adapter which is required if you decided to try and mount the disposal to your existing mounting system if it's not already an " easy mount". Comes with a 3 prong elec cord attached, my old disposal was hard wired directly to the disposal. I spent about $3 dollars on parts and installed a recepticle under the sink, looks cleaner and makes future repairs/replacement much easier. Plumbing was really the only issue, and it really wasn't all that bad. My guess is that most installs will require a little customizing to fit. My insinkerator disposal had a threaded drain line, this unit does not,has an 1 1/2 in bolt on " down tube, so about $3 dollars in PVC fittings to tie it in and all is well. I also installed a "custom" made dampner! there was some vibration and I observed that when I grabbed the drain line with my hand the vibration was minimalized and unit itself was pretty quiet. Since I couldn't stand there the rest of my life and hold the drain line I took the old rubber " splash guard off the other disposal , trimmed it up so that it was the diameter of the drain pipe and wrapped it around the drain line and attached it with a zip tie. Made a big/huge difference in the amount of noise! Shipping was Faster than they said it might be( 5 days). Bottom line........ good value and easy install!

Waste King and Easy Mount Installation A+
I purchased and installed this new Waste King 1/2hp disposal after removing a 25 year old Waste King 1/3hp disposal. It made it easier as plumbing lined up and height was same under my cabinet. I followed directions closely and watched online video. Only recommendation, be sure the rubber cushion mount is seated into the groove correctly. I used support to hold up disposal and had adequate lighting and tools. I am a 79 year old female and took on the challenge. Figured if I failed I would then call a plumber. Disposal was about 8 pounds so not too heavy for me. First time I ever installed a disposal. Took me about 90 minutes as I worked slowly and double checked everything. All works perfectly, no leaks, no wiring involved as cord is already attached. Like this disposal very much because if I dropped something into it, it has a wide enough opening for my hand to fit to retrieve object, whereas, other makers have smaller openings. Also, was able to complete installation more easily because my cabinet had easy access whereas I was not having to lay on my back to install. Thank you

Eat my junk!
Had to replace my leaking In-Sinkerator that was 10 years old (so no bad feelings there), and I just wanted to get something that would do the same job, not cost a lot, maybe try a new brand for the heck of it, and take less space under my sink if possible. The WasteKing 1001 fit the bill on all accounts. And the BEST PART - I installed it in 1 hour. I just loved their EZ thing to do the sink-flange part. Taking out the old In-Sinkerator took just as much time as it took to put this puppy in. The only 'inconvenience' was having to duck down to the local Home Cheapo to get a longer discharge pipe. Others have complained about the fact that you need plumber putty to do the sink flange, and they are right - it would not have cost WasteKing much to throw that in, but being a weekend warrior I had the putty (as well as lots of other plumbing stuff) so there was no problemo there - and for $64 you can't find a better deal. I also love the fact that this disposal has the reset button on the front so one does NOT have to go fiddling around to find it on the bottom of the InSinkerators - nor is there some funky tool to 'unclog it'...must mean this baby really doesn't need an unclogging tool, and unless you are shoving body parts down this I wouldn't think it ever would (the model up would probably do well for you serial killers reading this...just kidding!!!) Bottom line - the price is great, it is quieter than my old InSinkerator 'Badger 5', and it's a breeze to install. No screwing around with electrical (as long as you have an outlet handy - if your old one was 'hard wired' it will be more difficult). If you have any handyman skills at all, get this to replace what you have unless you have some serious garbage disposal requirements. I understand the next model up (2600) gives you an even better warranty and it is quieter (which I almost bought, actually), but I took a chance and was pleased at the noise level for the cheaper one. Grind on, mates!!

Perfect if you dont use the disposal very often!! DIY friendly!!
Its super cheap, surprisingly very easy to install, much more powerful and more quieter than my previous more expensive garbage disposals. I was slightly worried about buying the cheapest disposal on amazon, But I figured Even if it breaks in a few years, its cheaper to buy 2 of these than 1 of the rival brand 1/2 HP disposals. I was very surprised on how quiet it is. No rumbling or shaking my countertop at all. To be fair, I dont really use the disposal all that much. Maybe on average just 20-30 seconds a day, but I can tell this does the job just very well. Its powerful and fast. I tested it out and it clears my drain within seconds. Not to mention its very easy to install. I was able to install it on a very old cast iron sink. There's a review that mentions that you cant install this on one of them, but thats just not true in my case. It uses mostly rubber gaskets so you dont have to worry about the difficult to install O-ring that come with most garbage disposals. Those O-rings are tricky to install and a nightmare to take off if you're replacing an old disposal. I really surprised and satisfied with this unit. I hope it lasts a while, but even if it doesnt, its still great for a DIY'er who's trying to get their feet wet with kitchen sink plumbing!

Hard wiring is a nightmare!!
They went out of their way to make removing the power cord and hardwiring this beast as difficult as they possibly could. First, the wire nuts are crimped so that you can't simply unscrew them like you can on every other brand. So now you have to cut and strip the wire, which is fine except they make no mention of needing wire strippers in the directions. Speaking of directions, there basically are none for hardwiring. The only thing it does say is either sarcastic or meant to mock you: "pull out the existing power cord and connect the hardwired power". That's it. That's all you get. And what's worse is that removing the existing power cord is so difficult that you're probably going to damage the unit if you try. Check YouTube and you'll find video after video of plumbers remarking at how insanely difficult it is to remove the power cord. Honestly, the installation experience is so bad for hardwired setups that you shouldn't even attempt it in the normal way. I did it successfully and I still regret it. Here are some much less hazardous alternatives: 1. Just splice the wire somewhere along the line. Use the existing cord and just cut it anywhere and wire it up to your power line. 2. Install an outlet at the end of your power line. This is the right way to do things anyhow. Besides, a j-box and faceplate won't set you back more than $10 and now you have a real outlet that will make installing that air switch or RO setup or whatever you want later on so much easier. 3. Buy solar panels, batteries, and power distribution unit and plug into that. Now you can run you disposal for free and it's still easier than trying to remove that god-forsaken power cord! 😉 But other than that, the rest of the install is pretty easy except it's weird that they don't just use the standard 3-screw mount like everyone else, thus forcing you to change every single component. The other thing to look out for if you have a straight horizontal drain pipe coming from the disposal to the main drain line (above the U-trap) is that this disposal is probably slightly narrower than the one you're replacing, so you might find yourself about 1/4" too short to reconnect the pipe. And good luck finding a replacement pipe with that flange on the end like the one you have. Those are apparently only sold with disposals and this one doesn't include a straight pipe (it does include a 90-degree pipe). And good luck finding that pipe size too. It's 1 1/8" for some sadistic reason. What I ended up doing was taking a 2" length of 3/4" PVC, which happens to fit perfectly inside the abomination-sized PVC. Cut the existing pipe about halfway, insert the 3/4", fit the pipe, then cover and seal the gap with JB Weld putty. You could also use a waterproof adhesive caulk or PVC glue, but I liked the way the putty fills the gap completely. If I could be bothered to paint it, no one would ever know the pipe had been monkeyed with at all. Note that it would be better to use a PVC coupler in order to avoid narrowing the pipe internally and creating what is likely to be a clog hazard at some point in the future. But I couldn't find one at Home Depot that fit this crazy pipe size. You'll probably have to go to a specialty plumbing supply place to get one. And I know you probably have the same situation going on because the included 90-degree pipe is the same crazy size. And woe unto you if you try to change it. You'll end up having to replumb the entire sink and then you'll still need to find an adapter that likely doesn't exist to connect into the pipe in the wall. Hope that helps walk you through everything I know of that can go wrong.

An excellent apple masher
This "garbage disposal" works well as an apple masher. There are many examples of using them for this purpose on the internet; I chose this one because it looked simple to mount and use, and was inexpensive. Perhaps the best feature of it is that it hasn't over-heated and shut itself off. It just keeps running although I am feeding apples continuously into it. It mounted easily, and I have the discharge pipe feeding into a larger piece of new PVC pipe to the bucket below. It is vibration-free, and easy and efficient to use. It uses a standard 3-prong 120V electrical connection. The first picture is of the basic set-up, while the second picture shows the full set-up, complete with mash. (The plastic knife acts as a wedge to keep the PVC pipe in place. It is easy to clean - I just run water from a garden hose into it. The masher is easy to disassemble although the grinding surface cannot be taken off (remember, these things are not meant to be maintained by the user). I am thoroughly pleased with it for this purpose.

Marca y modelo totalmente recomendables 👍🏻
