I am SO glad I bought it anyway (based on the great reviews) because it's super sturdy. The tiers stack on top of each other. I imagined it would be an accordion-type of mechanism where the tiers could fall down into each other but that's not how it's assembled. I love that you can use as many tiers as you want. I bought 2 for my son's first birthday party. We used one for fruits and vegetables and the other for cupcakes. I never thought to use a cupcake stand for anything other than cupcakes, but it's really cool because you can fit so much more in a smaller space.
