Self watering that really works
The terra cotta holders are a bit fragile especially if pushing into potted plants with thick root thatching. Broke a few on top, but still used them as bottles still stood up. These really do work great especially in this Texas heat wave this summer.

broken
The few I got were nice but a few were broken. I'm going on vacation so it sucks and not sure what to do now

This works!
I bought these a few months ago and had my first opportunity to use them when we left for a 16-day trip. I watered all of my plants well before leaving and set this up in those that needed the most moisture. I came home to gorgeous foliage, even on my Coleus, which likes moist soil. Some water was left in many bottles, so I could have enjoyed the Florida sun for another week! A worthwhile purchase!

great for watering
This worked well for a fig tree and many other plants. We have a weekend home with a greenhouse and needed a watering system to last a week. The soil you use matters. I had some that did not soak up the water because the soil had too much clay - it got too hard. You definitely need to water the soil good when you leave (or as you fill these with a bottle of water) it so it will work.I did not have any trouble with breaking these. I used both a regular wine bottle and a large wine bottle. There were times that there was still water in the bottle after a week, but I believe it's my soil that needs some sand to help with drainage. Some pots, the soil got hardened. I made my own soil with dirt, peat moss, pearlite, and compost. The dirt in PA is very hard clay and needs amendment. Potting soil should be fine.

They work
I recommend this product, I feel more relaxed about forgetting to water the plants, they can be fragile due to the material they're made of, handle them with care.

ONLY fit wine bottles !
They ONLY fit wine bottles. No other bottle will work. Would be easy to make them a tiny bit wider so other bottles could be used. I would like to be able to use bigger bottles so I don't have to fill them so often. The jury's still out if they actually keep the area moist. I'll update as it goes. They were packages VERY well not danger of them breaking.

Works great
MY ONLY COMMENT IS THAT IF YOU ARE AWAY FOR A WEEK YOU WILL BE OUT OF WATER. IN THIS HOT WEATHER THE WATER IS GOOD FOR MAYBE THREE DAYS SO BEFORE I LEAVE I WATER THE TOP LIBERALLY SO THE ROOTS DON'T TAKE TOO MUCH.

Works, but brittle. Pay attention to the bottle shape
The shape of the bottle and the size of the outer part of the neck GREATLY affect the ease of pushing the stake into even moist, loose soil. One bottle I had was thicker around the cork (possible a champagne) and another was more tapered through the shoulder. Both of these caused the stake to break as it put outward pressure on the stake. The other bottle necks fit easily inside the stake rested on the shoulder so the pressure was more straight down, rather than more outward.
