Smittybilt 3" Black Side Bar is designed to secure with five pins into a squashed step having no flimsy pad attachments and no exposed metal vulnerable to rust. It is constructed from steel that is highly durable requires no drilling. This side bar fits all vehicles and ensures easy installation. Review: Five Stars - Great shipping and best price. Review: good value, do your homework - mounted these on a 92 XJ. I learned some things doing it, and have learned a lot by reading more about it since. DRILLING IS REQUIRED, but not as big of a deal as I thought it would be. use cutting oil, tap magic, anchor lube, or 3-n-1 to keep the workpeice and bit cool. the process was straight forward, the bars are as sturdy as could be expected from a bolt-on set of bars. DO YOUR PREP-Work!!! if you're working with a jeep that isn't brand new, spray your leaf mounting bolts with a penetrant/rust eater (PBB, seafoam, WD, DeepCreep) for a few days before you even attempt the install. i think there's even a hole located so that you can get a straw in to spray where the nuts are welded inside the unibody rails. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. my buddy was trying to take the spring-mounting bolt ALL the way out, when in reality, it only needs to come out far enough to slip the bracket underneath. Have at least an 18" breaker bar handy, and watch that the leaf-spring bolt doesn't try to bring its sleeve with it, bending out the attachment bracket. it's a good idea to have a helper, and if you're still in a bind, go ask for help on one of the many Jeep forums online.

If you just want cheap steps, they're OK
Bought these for my '01 XJ Limited Sport. Just wanted cheap steps to throw on until I get rock sliders. First, these are the chepeast, lowest quality steps you can get. I bought these with the intention of throwing them in the scrap bin a year from now. It's cheap metal, cheap hardware, one of my steps was dented out of the box, and they'll likely rust to pieces through their first winter. They are made in China. I knew what I was getting in to so no complaints there. Second, these aren't very load-bearing. I'd be hesitant to put more than 200lbs or so of pressure on them for more than just a second or two getting in/out of your vehicle. They had some give to them just pulling them up/pushing them down by hand. Again, they're cheap, no surprises here. Third, the instructions you get with them are terrible. The first thing I did was go online and look up better instructions, and Smittybilt's website has JN420 instructions. Problem is they don't match up at all to what you receive here from this listing. Different brackets entirely. Ended up just figuring out the install process on my own. Docked 2 stars just for that. Paper is cheap, make better instructions Smittybilt. Fourth, they definitely do require five 5/16" holes drilled in to your frame on *each* side.

Drilling is required!
Good looking bars but you do have to drill. No that big of a deal but still aggravating since it says in the title "no drill"
