Okuma Avenger ABF B Series Graphite Baitfeeder Saltwater Spinning Reel

I have several different sizes of the Okuma spinning reels and have been very satisfied with each. The ABF 6000 and ABF-B 6500 are heavy duty reels I use for catfishing. I do feel the increased capacity of the 6500 is worth the extra cost. Additionally, the bait runner switch on the 6500 is activated by flipping the switch in the opposite direction than that of the 6000 which is an improvement as well. If you slide the 6000 in a rod holder you can accidentally activate the bait runner inadvertently. Either way both are great, but in my opinion the ABF series is a step up in both lane capacity and the way the bait runner switch works. Both reels are extremely smooth!

When it comes to purchasing items usually my husband will send me the item to see and ask me to read the reviews and to give me my opinion of what I think. So this reel just so happened to be one that he had sent me. I read mixed reviews but decided for the price, why not give it a shot! We paired this with a rod we currently had laying around the house and a few days later took it out to give it a test run. When it came to performance this thing is a beast! It pulled in a 58” 100lb Black drum like nothing in a matter of 2 mins. We had read a lot of comments of it breaking or that the bearings went bad but to me, it’s like anything else, if you use the equipment the way it was intended to be used and perform proper maintenance to the equipment then it is going to last. We live in an area that is all saltwater and oil our reels every month and have not had an issue yet. We loved this one so much that we purchased a second one that is the next model below for my father as a Christmas gift. If you are looking for something that is durable and reasonably priced then you should definitely get one, you will not regret it!

I originally bought an 8' heavy action Whoppin' Stick spinning combo from Bass Pro years ago and the reel it came with was not great and was finally giving out. I wanted to get a decent reel that was affordable and especially wanted a baitfeeder feature since I fish a lot at night for catfish. So, I went with this reel and I am happy I did. For a hair under $70 I think you will be hard pressed to find a better spinning reel especially with the baitfeeder feature. The baitfeeder works great! I have read some reviews stating the clicker on the baitfeeder was not loud enough. I suppose if you are a long way away, but if you are within 10ft or so of the reel it is plenty loud. Plus it is a blast to hear the clicker start going. - Affordable - Smooth casting - Smooth reeling - Strong build construction I cannot compare this to old Okuma reels as this is the first one I have owned, but with everything I have witnessed so far with the few times I have had it out, I would definitely buy it again.

I spooled up my new AFB 65b with 30lb. braid with a 30lb. mono top-shot and used it this past weekend at Mission Bay in San Diego. The set-up is obviously overkill for the fish I was fishing for, but it was a perfect opportunity to try out the set-up before going after the fish I intend to use this reel for. It worked almost flawlessly. I say almost flawlessly because before the day was over, the clicking sound you would expect from a bait feeder reel when it's spooling out went from faint to non-existent. This is not an issue if you keep an eye on the reel all day. Unfortunately, After catching a dozen spotted bass and a Thresher Shark, I had my back turned and didn't realize that something BIG had grabbed the bait and had me half un-spooled before I could get on the rod. At first I though it was another boat that might have snagged the line, but it may have been a sea-lion/seal or a large shark. Whatever it was didn't even slow down as I cranked up the drag!!! I eventually had to cut the line to avoid unwanted damage. The Okuma AFB 65 is not in the same class as my other bait runner, but at about 1/3 the cost, I will certainly buy more Okuma baitrunners in the future assuming this one holds up to the test of time. Okuma really should work on the "clicker" though, that's an integral part of a baitrunner in my opinion.

Got my 1st Okuma (65 feeder) yesterday and put it to test this morning. This is one solid, strong, smooth casting and drag reel. I fish in South FL and I’m already loving this reel. Super easy to cast, the large know allows me to get a much better grip and the drag makes things seamless. Pulled several barracudas w/out any efforts and the key is to make sure you adjust the front and rear drag correctly, other than that you will enjoy this reel( for far less than shimano), this one is 3 oz heavier but $$$$ cheaper. Looks and feels great, you won’t regret this purchase.

Nothing like that run! Great reel, couldn’t be happier. I’ve had it for almost a year now, no issues. I’ll order another one eventually so I can have two (been using baitcaster as 2nd lol). This is my carp reel and it’s the best

It functions flawlessly and for the money I can't even name another real that is in the same league as this beast. I'm still waiting to catch something to put it to to the test. I paired this real with an 8ft surf rod and I have caught a few catfish of unremarkable size, this thing feels like you could bring in just about anything you would want to catch. I will be buying more before Amazon runs out as I heard they are discontinued.

I have several other types of reels and other Baitfeeder reels in different sizes. I'm most surprised at the solid build of this reel. It's definitely not lightweight but it sure is solid. And that's what I want in a saltwater/beach rig throwing heavy tackle in the surf. I got this one and the 8000 series as well and the smoothness is very surprising even though it has way less ball bearings than my other bait feeders. Quiet and Smooth. Love this reel !

This reel works perfectly and pairs well with my Daiwa Beef Kitty rod. I have zero complaints with this reel and would recommend it to anyone with a need for such a beefy reel.
