Ajax is the only company I could find that makes .498 shank bits in the USA. The quality appears to be excellent (just received it today) and it's a real sturdy bit. Since it's a blunt end I expect it to last years at the least. I already tested it on some cast iron and it worked beautifully. Excellent for reaching tight spots. Ajax says that its bits are manufactured in the USA but Mayhew Pro, Astro Pneumatics, and Grey Pneumatic all make their bits outside. This was a main selling point for me. I'm not knocking overseas manufacturers, but I prefer to support national businesses as a personal choice. I'll be purchasing more bits(preferably on amazon if they have more stock) of the cold chisels and punches in their respective 18 inch variations if I can.
