PioneerTS-MR2040 8 Inch Marine Speaker

I installed four eight inch pioneer speakers in my 25 foot open fisherman. They are connected to a Sony 600 watt (60 watts RMS) Marine Amplifier. These speakers sound great. THEY WILL NOT PLAY WELL WITHOUT AN AMPLIFIER (nominal rating is 40 watts RMS). They are the best value and are unmatched by any competitor in their price range. In order to get a better sounding speaker you will have to pay nearly twice as much, but those expensive speakers will not sound twice as good. In addition, pioneer marine speakers will hold up very well when exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods. I did not use a boat cover and the speakers still sound great 18 months later. Bass response is just OK but mids and highs are awesome. For deep bass you will need to add subwoofers and a mono amp as I did (two 10s). I highly recommend pioneer to any consumer. If you only want to listen to the speakers while inside the boat, you can mount them low, however if you intend on listening to the speakers while anchored at a beach/sandbar, choose the highest place available to mount them. I have a pair on the sides of my center console at the highest point, since I often listen to music while the boat is anchored and I am in the water. These Pioneer speakers sound crisp even from 50 feet away.

Replaced wet sound speakers with these pioneer speakers. Sound great. Came as advertised. We’ll see how they hold up in a saltwater environment

I installed a set of these 5 years ago along with a set of 6.5" speakers. I would prefer some other connectors to the speaker wires as this has been the weak spot (I've had to reconnect/solder several times). BUT, the speakers sound great and have performed well. I am only replacing them after 5 years in a salt water environment (outside, uncovered on my bow) because the speaker surrounds have deteriorated. Highly recommended.

You will be surprised and pleased! I have been involved it the audio business for many years now and I carefully researched speakers for my pontoon boat for over a month. These speakers are the absolute best for your money and the spec's are spot on. I paired 4 of these up with the Sony 160 watt marine head unit and I was impressed. The vocals are clear thanks to the reflex horn tweeter and the midrange and bass is great...The sound from the pontoon really carries when we are beached up and grilling.

So far, these Pioneers deliver crystal clear highs and solid bass in our 23 Center Console at 30 knots or while stopping for a swim break. We've powered them with a solid class D amp and they are taking the abuse very well. There are great, high end Coaxes with good support...at 4x the price. For the $$...these are hard to beat!!

I just installed these with a Jensen receiver/amp and am very happy with the sound. They produce enough sound out of the center console that you can hear them with both motors running and clearly. They had the installation diagram and cutout to use. I have one pointing fore and the other aft out of the console. I was concerned with this mounting over the gunnel mount but this works out great. I will be interested to see how they hold up to weather but seem to be very well built and water proof. I would recommend these speakers.

This is the second pair I've owned. The first pair, powered by a Pioneer amplifier, lasted about five seasons on my boat. This pair is being powered by a Pyle PLMRMP2A amplifier (which allows me to plug my iphone into the speakers without needing a radio or other amplifier). The speakers have a combination of 0.25" and 0.110" quick connects which appear to be gold plated. I found the correct size in gold-plating at the local Auto Zone. After making the proper connections, I sprayed the entire connection area of the back of the speaker with a generous coating of marine-grade anti-corrosion spray (corrosion here was the cause of the failure of the first pair). They come with mounting screws and the appropriate gasket. The sound is great despite the harsh conditions and getting sprayed with salt water on a regular basis. At the end of each day, the exterior gets rinsed off with fresh water. For the price, if I can get three to five seasons from them, I'll be a happy camper.
