Question 1

What's the difference between this beginner rope and the pro freestyle ropes? they're both 4mm and the descriptions are identical.

As a jump rope enthusiast and one that owns ALL kinds of rope, I have the insight.  So hear me out:--there are 3 main types: #1 skinny metal rope with coating, #2 PVC like this one, and #3 beaded rope.  #1 is for ppl doing extreme speed like in competition.  #2 and #3 are for normal jumping as well as doing tricks.  There is a good size community of ppl doing jump rope on IG, search it out.  Take my advice: this is a good handle type though Elite is not the only ppl selling this handle type.  Don't buy any other kind of handle.  You don't need to spend $50, $60, $70 for other set up, at least not yet.  However, go find something heavier than 4mm.  Do online search and you will find many places that sell this stuff with different color for handles or rope or thickness.  Lastly, the thinner the rope the more work on your wrists and arms to rotate the rope.

Does the cord itself have some weight to it? I tried to use one that had a super lightweight cord and it wasn't heavy enough to work very well.

It could do w/ a bit more weight, but i dont have any problems using it. Im 6 ft and 210 LBS.
