After mats were removed she even seemed to, dare I say like, me using this on her back area through her thick coat as general combing. It kept getting a lot of her under coat up which was great and just really made her fluff back up. I wish I would have taken before and after photos, but I didn't think of it. The blades on this comb seem to cut/shred the hair really well to remove mats as gently as possible. As I said, I have several other dematting combs and none have the cutting blades like this even though they make claim to. If you yank on your pet's fur hard enough to bend any blades, you deserve to get mauled! Just kidding. These are very sturdy blades, and unless you ran over the tool with your car, I don't know how you could accidentally damage them. And if someone managed to bend a blade, you can probably get it back where it belongs with needle nose pliers. Just guessing, of course. I don't see the blades ever getting damaged in normal use; they're way tougher than a pet's ability to resist having fur pulled out that hard! In fact, I prefer this brand to another one I own because it's narrower and therefore doesn't pull as much hair. His tummy is wavy/curly and he definitely gets little knots and mats of fur under his "arms" and down around the base of his tail. This thing works pretty well to detangle and remove knots. I try to pull the knot apart a bit by hand first because if it really pulls with the de-matter, Floki will give me a bite! But mostly he doesn't mind me using this on him. Still, keeping him groomed so that we have less hair on the couches and other things he lays on is a challenge. I have a couple of combs and a couple brushes, and one of those rubber-spikey gloves (that thing is pretty useful) and now the de-matter. It takes all of these things to manage a Maine Coon's fur!
