Probably a nice card, but I wouldn't know
Tried everything to get into the RAID config of this card and was unable to use hotkeys or configure the card as a bootable option to actually get into the card and create a new RAID array.Completely unsuccessful and documentation from Broadcom for this card is basically non-existent.Stuck with LSI version of Broadcom RAID cards as they work without a hitch.

Excellent card for the price
I have used this card extensively and have found it to be rock solid. It does all that is advertised and more. I would highly recommend this card to anyone.

Might Be a Very Nice Controller ---- But Can't Update Its Firmware to Find Out
I got one of these controllers to put together a truly high performance server. I have several of the 9361-8i, 9271-8i and 9266-8i controllers, so I figured I should be able to get the 9460-16i up and running easily ---- WRONG!After installing this controller on a motherboard, and attaching a RAID 6 drive array already created using a 9361-8i controller, the 9460-16i actually informs me that it doesn't work with SATA hard drives ---- HUH? Their literature talks about being able to work with storage devices using any of the SATA, SAS and NVMe interfaces. However, I then notice the firmware date is just over a year old, and I figure that what I'm seeing maybe a matter of old and out-of-date firmware. So, I go to the Broadcom website and download the very latest firmware dated within just the last several days ---- the downloaded zip file has a 6MB .rom file of the new firmware, and a .txt file describing various aspects of it.The one that is missing is a basic and simple thing that SHOULD NOT BE MISSING ---- namely INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO FLASH THE FIRMWARE ONTO THE CONTROLLER.However, despite this unbelievable oversight, I was not phased, because I've worked with so many other RAID controllers (see the list above), including updating their firmware, that I figured I need only use the very same software tools (e.g., the megacli.exe utility) to update the firmware on this controller ---- again, WRONG!For whatever reason, the megacli.exe utility does not want to work for flashing new firmware onto this 9460-16i RAID controller. I can only guess that maybe the 9460-16i is sufficiently different from the others that I've worked with that it requires the use of a different software utility to update its firmware.Unfortunately, as mentioned earlier, the Broadcom website SAYS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING THAT I CAN FIND about how to update the firmware on the 9460-16i, including what utility to use or how to use it ---- nothing!NOTE TO LSI / AVAGO / BROADCOM / whatever-you're-calling-yourselves-lately, the information of how to update the firmware of a card and the utility needed to do so SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN EVERY SINGLE DOWNLOAD OF ANY VERSION OF FIRMWARE FOR ANY CARD!!!!I should not have to go hunting for this information!!!

Works with Ubuntu 22.04 RAID-5
My 3 year old Microsemi raid controller went out of support by all linux kernels, and I had to find another brand / card that could operate and work with modern Linux.I had a hard time filtering through 'old' controllers to find one that was compatible with Ubuntu 22.04 and an Asus Sage WXR80 Motherboard - this one worked and seems to be able to work with older legacy - I was able to use this in UEFI without any issues! Even installing Ubuntu, which other controllers struggle with (I know from experience) !The firmware: This controller comes with newer firmware that I cannot find - I was unable to find a suitable firmware upgrade, however it seems there is no need for an upgrade because the firmware (bios is from 2022) seems to work fine. Not sure if this is an OEM firmware from the shipper, or not. But if it works I will take it because no other controller was able to do what I needed. The controller is really fast with a full RAID-5 array, 16 Samsung SSD ! Very very good. The initialization only took a few hours for almost 7 TB of full initialization. I turned off all cache and still have great speeds read and write (which is recommended for SSD). This came with a battery which I installed but not sure if I will needed it since I don't use cache. I did enable verify write. But I think that is a cache thing.I get AER errors from my nvme cards, but not from this card!I hope this helps anyone. Only worry is if an issue does pop up I may not be able to find a firmware upgrade without asking support directly. Only time will tell.I will be buying another one soon to use with a MegaRaid HBA for a mega server I am building.
