Cost over nails is a factor, but I didn't need a whole lot. I needed more than the $10-12 120-pack at Lowes so buying this larger pack helped to keep cost lower. I used them for attaching joist hangers and hurricane ties for a lean-to and a deck.So-far-so-good. A battery-powered impact driver to get these in weighs less than a nail gun, but you also have to apply more pressure to get it to sink into the wood vs. it just spinning (and getting hot), so that's the pro/con when you're on a ladder putting up hurricane ties. Good to always keep in mind what problem you're trying to solve and what is the best tool to do that. This was a good solution for my problem at least.

I'm building a covered patio on my home and hanging joists with pressure-treated lumber. I'm using Simpson Strong-Tie joist hangers and am using these screws. Never yet been disappointed with Simpson products - and this case is no exception. Five stars.
