Q: Is there a way to secure this carrier with a seatbelt in the car?

Yes! I sometimes put the carrier in the front seat, front facing, and thread the seatbelt through the top handle. Or I put it in the back seat with door facing towards the center of the car and do the same, threading the seat belt through the top handle.

Q: How are these with wild animals? Hawks, racoons and such.

I don't think I would use it for Hawks. This really works for me and my cats. Seems as if it would be fine for smaller dogs as well. As for wild animals you need to know that only the doors are metal. A squirrel, for instance, would chew through it pretty easy. I think I would look at what the pros use for the wild animals.

Q: The top door is supposed to be held to the carrier by three hinges, but on mine the middle hinge isn't seated. Anyone know how to correct this?

I was able to fix it. Petmate's customer support asked me to send a photo, after which they told me they thought the problem must have been caused by a defective mold and I would need to return the kennel to the vendor. Figuring I had nothing to lose by trying to fix it myself, I removed the top door by pulling it away from the hinge points, and then pushed the top door into place with its three metal hinge bars under the three plastic hinge pieces while simultaneously pressing up the middle plastic hinge piece from below. So, the problem wasn't a defective mold, which to me means customer service was poor.
