These are the original famous Chinese scissors that have been often copied, but never equaled. These precision scissors are commonly used in the west for pruning, but are perfectly suited for fine fabrics, general use and bonsai trimming. These are heirloom quality scissors that will last for years. In a recent enhancement, a length of quality tubing has been added to the handles as padding to prevent any soreness to your hands with continuous use. These cushions are not glued on and can be cut off if preferred. About this 350 year old company: Zhang Xiaoquan opened its doors during the Qing dynasty during Emperor Kangxi?s reign in 1663 AD. The brand was designated for imperial use in the Qing Dynasty court and got a special award from Emperor Qianlong. The crafting of these scissors require processes that evolved over three centuries: high-quality steel is set into wrought iron which is then forged and hammered into cutting edges. Next the edges are finely ground with mineral rich mud bricks from the area. You'll find the action to be smooth and sure. The company has received awards for excellence at the Southern Coast Industrial Exposition in 1910, the 1915 Panama Pacific Imitational Exposition and the 1926 Expo in Philadelphia. The age-old forging techniques of Zhang Xiaoquan Scissors have been included in the list of China's intangible cultural heritage. The package includes a sheet with this history and more information. Be sure that the logo cast into the side of the scissors you receive matches the logo printed on the photo to assure receipt of the genuine article and not a similar copy.

Good tool, stinks
These are fantastic scissors but the rubber covering on the handle really smells awful. I set it in the garage for several days and it stunk up the garage! So I cut them off, no big deal. However, that revealed the rough unfinished weld where handle meets blade - they didn't even try to grind it down and smooth it out.Still, they are fantastically sharp and seem very durable, now that they don't stink.

Best. Scissors. EVER.
These are fantastically sharp and great for everything from trimming dog hair between toe pads to cutting fabric. I’ve had a pair for a few years and just ordered more to have around the house. The originals are still super sharp 🙌🏼

Nice and Sharp
Sharp, basic, and as advertised. Don't expect a fancy pair of scissors, they are constructed well but with no finishing touches unless you want to count the rubber hose covering the metal handles. I took that stuff off and it didn't make any difference in comfort. I think the knowledge that these are being made by a company that's been operating since 1663 AD raises the cool factor by at least 56%. ;-)

The Best Scissors Of The World
It is the scissors my mother uses, my grand mother used and my grand grandmother used. It is very sharp, very easy to use and lasts forever. It is very hard to find but I've found it here, thank you amazon !

These had a very very strong chemical odor upon opening the box. Not sure what that was from as they are supposed to be stainless steel. Perhaps it was the packaging or the rubber covering the handles. Either way I have to keep them outside. Hopefully it will dissipate soon.

Easy to use, sharp and durable
We bought this for our bonsai and it's perfect. It's easy to use, sharp and very durable. I have small hands and I find this comfortable to handle. I highly recommend this to those looking for a trimmer for their bonsai. But don't expect too much on the aesthetic because it's just basic utility scissors and no fancy designs.

... most surprising thing about this pair is just how comfortable it feels on the hand
The most surprising thing about this pair is just how comfortable it feels on the hand. It LOOKS primitive and uncomfortable but it isn't all. I have small hands but I found that my fingers curl around the handles very comfortably, and the very basic rubber(?) cover handles made a good cushion. It is also extraordinarily sharp - much sharper than most household scissors - we have some branded pairs (even one that came with our Global set - those wonderful knives- pair!) which don't match up at all. We use it for ordinary everyday use - paper mostly, but it feels satisfying to hear and feel it slice through so crisply. And the fact that this is something that was made using techniques handed down from the 17th century just makes it a little special - if it ain't broke, why fix it? Those old metalsmiths knew what they were doing.

Good product at a good price.
Bought these for a seat recaning project. Price was good and I liked the history of the foundry. arrived in good shape. worked great. Solid scissors. good strong snipping of rattan cane. Rubber covers on handle did have a strong smell initially but nothing awful and lessened promptly.
