Nice little system!
This little system has bang for the buck. It has a manual radio tuner (if you live in an area with poor radio signals, you know why this is important). It also has a physical antenna, so you can position it to pick up the best signal. The CD player is nice. It even plays the CDs I burned of my digital music purchases with ease. The speakers are good. They are small, but the volume is decent. I wouldn’t use this in a noisy place, however. In a quiet home it does carry well. Mine did not come with a remote so I can’t review that. Overall I am very happy with my purchase and I have used it daily since it arrived.

A versatile unit with good quality sound
I ordered this item primarily for one reason, to play oldies on CD and MP3 through the speakers in this unit when powered by the cord going into the cigarette lighter and using an Enkey 150W car power inverter DC12V to 110V AC. This is for a collector car from the '60's, long before cars came with built in CD players and inputs for the MP3 player. One needs this arrangement if you hate modern AM and FM broadcast radio. Of course, this unit being reviewed will also work fine using batteries but they become expensive over time and add considerable weight to any boom box. It is a very good unit and I am happy with it. It does exactly what I wanted and it sounds very good, lots of volume and very clear. So far it has played every pre-recorded CD and my burned CD-R's without any problems, another thing I was looking for. It works well with earbuds too and has that jack on the front along with the aux input. Radio reception is very good on FM though I rarely use it. The detector works very well in locating and isolating broadcast signals. The built in carrying handle is solid and well-designed for this unit, and the cord is plenty long. Here is the only drawback I have encountered and I mention this in case it might be important to a prospective buyer. It is not a big deal for me. The very good instruction manual tells us how to program the unit to play tracks from a CD to hear only the ones we want to hear. This is easy to do and it works fine. It always seems to play the correct tracks that one has programmed. But the manual states on page 8 instruction #7 bullet 1, the following: "After the programmed tracks have been played the player stops but the program remains in the memory." In the case of the unit I purchased, this is not true. The unit does stop playing after the final programmed track, but that is the end of it. The small red Program light goes off and the memory is erased so one will have to re-program the machine from scratch and that does take time. If one hits the play button, the unit will simply start playing the entire CD from track one. So beware of this if you are one who likes only certain songs on a CD and tends to program your playback. I do not do this so it matters little to me. Besides, you are probably a person who does not buy or even own CD's any longer and uses only MP3 players or streams music exclusively. Nevertheless, I would like to see the manufacturer correct this statement in the manual. Overall, this is a good product for the price, is versatile, and suits my purposes well. I would recommend the unit.

Good looks and apparently it sounds good, too
I was surprised that it was so hard to find a boom box style radio, but I guess with smart phones and Bluetooth speakers being so prevalent now, demand has just sunk. I wanted one as a gift for a co-workers baby shower so that they could use it in the nursery. Most of the boom boxes that are available here are pretty ugly - either a conservative grey box with a cassette player built in or some overly futuristic looking monstrosity. I came across this one and liked it right away. I love the color of this one and I think it would look great in a kid's room. I also gave them some cool CDs of tunes that I believe are enjoyable for both kids and adults. I did not have a chance to listen to it before I wrapped it up, but speaking with my co-worker a few days after the shower, he said his fiancée was already using it around the house and loving both it and the CDs so I was glad to hear it was a hit. She said it sounds great and that the volume is good. Based on her enthusiasm, I give it five stars.

3 month warrenty and hot glue welding!!! Piece of junk, literally.
I bought this CD player even given the negative reviews, as I wasn't giving it to kids and it shouldn't break if I didn't do anything to it. Right? WRONG. The CD Play states it was manufactured September 2016. I bought it in November 2016. It died June 15th, 2017! This was a total life span of 9 to 10 months. I was listening the radio and the sound went off. I thought the radio station had stopped working, but it quickly became clear that it wasn't getting power. Given that it had never been dropped and it was less than a year old I called the manufacturer. The Jensen representative told me it is only a 3 month full warranty. Had I tried using batteries? After 3 months, you have to pay $20 for them to even look at it and possibly replace it or fix it. The CD player only costs $24, so this is a good deal for them. She was willing to send me a new cable in case that was the problem. I got the cable today and it wasn't the problem. The problem is the extremely poor manufacturing. No longer worried about voiding a worthless warranty I took the CD player apart and figured out why it is so cheap in cost and construction. Most of the internal parts look like they fell off of the back of a truck. They are scuffed and poorly made. Rather than weld the wires they used hot glue. (To make it easier to fix when, not if, it breaks?) I would say it was some sort of industrial "special glue," but if it looks, smells, and behaves like hot glue it probably is. It even has the little strings of glue between application sights. (See pictures.) At least three locations use thin cardboard to hold the parts in place. The motherboard does have some welding, but it is some of the worst I have ever seen and isn't uniform. I am no longer amazed that it broke within 10 month of manufacture. I am shocked that it survived this long. Even sitting on my desk must have been a strain for it. I suggest you don't waste your time, desk space, or your money on this items. If you bought it and it still works, it is just a matter of time.

Power cord doesn't fit. Wrong one shipped with my Jensen CD-490.
I purchased the Jensen Model CD-490 through Amazon in late April 2018. So far, the player has good sound and plays CDs well. I like it. This model does not include batteries, but does (references in the User Manual) have a power cord. However the cord which shipped with my unit doesn't fit. It does not seat properly. It won't quite go all the way in. It "waggles" and falls out, and the connection is sporadic. I borrowed a cord with the same configuration from a friend who has an old Magnavox boombox, and it fit the Jensen snugly and seated firmly. The Jensen unit plays well with the (Magnavox) AC cord. On close inspection, they are not exactly the same. The Jensen cord (RISHENG) is rated 7A - 125 V. The Magnavox cord (CHAU'S) is rated 10A - 125V, and inserts a fraction of an inch deeper into the Jensen. Someone ordered the wrong cord to be shipped with the Jensen unit, and Amazon customers are on the receiving end of that error. Additional Info: Jensen 490 part info: RISHENG E328760 RS-02 (bad fit, does not work) Magnavox chord info: CHAU'S SP016B (fits snugly and performs well) And now I must return my friend's cord. So, what to do? Not happy.

Works wonderfully! Perfect for my 1 yr old's sing-along cds.
I've been using it for about a week or two and it has been great. The volume can be turned up loud so we only have it up half way (or less) which is plenty for our small living room. I bought it for my 1 year old to play her cds without having to worry about her breaking it. It's a wonderful purchase for the price. Some things that are hard for a child is that the volume control and radio tuner is a dial knob rather than a push button so its hard for a young toddler to set them just right - easy to crank up the volume too high or make it too quiet - I think I can tape the volume knob down with duck tape or something if it starts to become a problem for her. Also, the play button is the small round black button on the very right on the front of the player above the lcd screen. It's small so it could be hard for some people without dexterity to push. Overall very happy with the purchase.

Delightfully simple
This CD player will not win awards for sound but if you're looking for a compact, basic sound machine, this will fit the bill. The simple, near-absence of digital controls makes it a great plug-and-play device for we of the technologically challenged group. There is no streaming, pairing, programming, or connection to WiFi. Just plug the thing in, set the desired sound source with the retro button on the side, adjust the volume and AM/FM radio frequency with the appropriate dial, or pop in a CD, and you're in business. Again, the sound will not blow your socks off. It's actually closer in sound to the old transistor type radios. There's no deep bass; there's actually very little of it and the overall sound could be described as "tinny." The sound is good, though, through headphones. A 5-star rating is admittedly high for a sound machine that doesn't put out the best sound. The ridiculously simple controls and functions, however, is delightfully refreshing and a welcome break from all the latest gadgets out there.
