Original Montgomery Womens Duffle Coat Toggle Coat

Nice coat (bright red); a bit rougher wool than I expected, but not too heavy a coat. I'm sure it would be warm. But: after reading most of the reviews, checking sizing here & on Montgomery website, I measured an LL Bean peacoat which is size petite 16, measured 46" under the arms and around the coat. So, I ordered size 16. The tiny label inside the duffle is marked "40" so I don't know how that equates to what I ordered - a size 16. The coat is much too tight across the back, armholes are much too tight, I tried it on wearing a light mock T-neck sweater. The duffle reached to my knees (OK, I am 5'2"), I really like the coat but will return mostly due to tightness in the arms and back; the waist & hip are fine. Going to give up on-line, actually may go to Canada to see if I can find one to try one before buying; luckily I live close by. Otherwise, a beautiful coat. My only other problems are: the wool is recycled wool, not new wool. The stitching for the leather (?) closures is poor, and the leather is very stiff for leather. Also, the zipper could be much better, and sewn better.

This coat is for some serious weather! The fit is great too. Based on the reviews I ordered a 10 instead of an 8. I originally ordered the London Duffle style coat (from Amazon) instead of this traditional Original Montgomery, thinking it was more flared at hips and a little more stylish. It looked great. But that fitted style was somewhat restrictive to me in chest/shoulders, and especially in arms and armholes. No room for layers or weight fluctuations! Also, the hood in London Duffle was quite shallow compared to this coat.Next, I ordered THIS coat in the same size and ALL problems with fit are solved. This one is just as roomy in hips and the hood is full-sized--not shallow like the London Duffle. This traditional Original Montgomery also has a zipper (London Duffle does not) so the wind and cold stay out better.I'm 5'2" 125 lbs, small but not skinny, and evenly proportioned. I usually take a Small. I'm glad I sized up, and I'm glad I changed to THIS coat. I like the way it looks; I don't think I sacrificed any style points by going with the roomier sleeves and upper torso. I can layer up plenty if I want, but the coat is already so warm, that in my climate it will be more than enough most days over a base layer.The camel is a rich color and the lining is quite pretty...a matching camel plaid with a bit of white and two shades of blue. Very well made, very handsome coat. It will never go out of style, which for me is great; I use coats for years and years. I can tell it will last, and I can't believe I waited this long to get my duffle!

Okay, I'm not 100% sure I'm keeping this because I completely forgot that wool and I do not get along (My skin is either too sensitive or I may actually have an allergy) and I didn't realize the lining was wool as well.Now that that's out of the way: THIS COAT IS BEAUTIFUL! It's soft and flexible, heavy but not bulky, and well-constructed. It even came on a nice heavy-duty hanger. I'm 5'8" and I weight about 200 lbs--36DDD-32-42. I normally wear a 12 or 14 depending on the brand but I got a 16 based on the reviews and sizing chart. It hits just above my knees and it fits my arms and chest perfectly (even with a heavy hoodie under it) but it's a little too big on my waist and hips. It's more a-line on me than straight or slim. I doubt it would be difficult to have the tailor take the waist in an inch or so if that bothers me enough. The sleeves are the perfect length so if you're tall and you like to tuck your hands into your coat sleeves, this probably isn't the coat for you (or you could just tuck your hands into your sweater underneath). All-in-all, it's a beautiful coat and it appears to be worth every penny. If you don't have a sensitivity to wool, go for it (and keep your fingers crossed that my skin decides were okay so I can keep it!).

What a lovely duffle coat. This is my first duffle coat and one of my two winter coats for the years to come. Being a minimalist, I was very impressed with the durability and quality of the cut and fabric. My Dad, who believes in buying the best quality that will last, commented that it was very well made and a good investment. I live in Michigan, and our rainy seasons and winter months can be brutal. The hood is beautiful! I am 6'1 female in her early 20's and this is a very classic coat, the sleeves are slightly short, so if you're tall, keep that in mind. It was a bit snug, but I'm not too worried, it'll be fine. The length is nice, not to short and not too long. I'm looking forward to trying it out this winter. So far, I'm very impressed and the brand is one of the best duffle coat makers in the world!

I've been wanting a duffle coat ever since I was a little girl in London and saw my big brother with one in the 70's. Unfortunately I didn't get to inherit his. The good news is that my charcoal Montgomery is everything in a duffle coat I've ever wanted. It's the perfect length. Roomy for my ample figure. I take a size 16 US, but some US coats are too tight across the hips. This UK 18 is a perfect fit and I can even wear a sweater inside with the coat zipped AND buttoned up. I love the warm wool tartan lining, so much better than those cold nylon ones found in most coats now. The sleeves are a little long for me, so I folded the cuffs over, and they still look good.

Very, very warm and beautifully made, and at this huge discount, I checked out their own website and this is close to £100 cheaper, so this is a bargain not to be missed, and a real must have for the cold Winter weather, especially with the hood and the fastening across the neck keeping you all snug and warm. The zip up the front inside came as a bit of a surprise but it blocks any cold air seeping through, and is invisible once the toggles are fastened.There was no problem changing the colour when I thought I'd ordered charcoal and noticed that I'd mistakenly ordered navy. I preferred the more subtle colours in the check lining. The charcoal is a bit darker than the illustrations, quite close to black. All in all, highly recommended, and it really is beautifully made and styled.

Great fabric,excellent quality,little nervous about the sizing,but having read all comments and double-checked the brand's board,I nailed the size!I'm 1,65cm, and 50kg so I picked 32 (8) and IT IS PERFECT!The color is very warm,true to the photo,the length is as it's supposed to be,looks great,can be worn with cardigans or extra clothes in very cold weather.Arrived very quickly and promptly.Classic and elegant!Recommended!

Going by the measurements on the Duffle Coats web site this was the right size to get. It fitted well all over BUT with one exception. The armholes are too shallow and I think placed wrongly, they need to be moved forward a bit and dropped lower. There was plenty of room at the back but not much at all at the front. It was very tight at the front and went into the armpits and was very uncomfortable. Sadly that caused me to have to return it. It was beautifully made and the colour is more what you see on the model not what it shows in the main picture, so a darkish red tone.

Fantastic quality. Thick wool material very warm. Well finished. Beautiful colour. Love the hidden zip and the internal pocket. Struggled to decide between red, blue and camel colour so I can see myself buying another.

After buying and returning duffle coats from Four Seasons and Jaeger I finally got lucky with this one. It is beautifully fitting, high quality and very stylish. I am a 12/14 and size 12 fitted perfectly. It is shorter than the pics as others have said but ttat suits me better. I have it in navy which is very dark, almost black. It has no separate lining but the inside is a lively tartan fabric that is bonded to the outer layer of wool. I am really pleased with this coat.
