Read it beforee you need to.
This book is straight forward, useful, simple and just plain great. I read it after my father in law died, and I wish I had read it BEFORE. I wish every parent would read it before they need it. The book starts with a general introduction. The info on how children grieve in different ways than adults was extremely enlightening to me, cause it allowed me to understand that my son is still "processing" personal and material losses from 3-4 years ago. It then was several chapters, each dedicated to one "type" (don't know how to say it in another way): the loss of a parent, pet, sibling, stigmatized or violent death, etc. Each chapter has several examples of how children might react or say and what to do in each case. The advice is divided by age groups (preeschoolers, 6-12, 12-19) I can only thank the autor for this book. It has truly helped my to help my son.
