Review: Excellent for the price, not difficult to install - I bought this device for my 2009 Ford Ranger extended cab. When I received the camera, it had the following in the box: 1. Camera 2. 17'-ish long composite cable 3. Power cable 4. Utterly useless instructions. I did not have a wire alongside the composite cable. I wound up running a single 18 gauge wire to send the signal to the head unit to turn on. The composite cord is just long enough without having to extend it on my truck - for other Ranger owners, drop the wire from the radio down the driver's (left) side of the tranny tunnel, then go through the grommet that is under the driver's seat. I put the wires in loom and snaked them along the frame alongside the other wiring for the truck and it's *just* long enough to get back to the bumper. I soldered a wire onto the positive side of the backup light, and I grounded the camera above the spare tire (using an existing 10mm bolt that bolts the spare tire cable assembly to the truck), which you'll want to remove to have some room hooking things up. I don't recommend the camera be on all the time, it'll probably wear out too fast. If you have a trailer and want to be able to turn the camera on, use a diode at the backup light and hook up an auxiliary switch on the dash somewhere to put +12V on the power line you run from the back of the truck - this will turn the camera and the radio input on and the diode will prevent the backup lights from coming on if you want to use the camera independently. Make sure you solder all the connections! The quality of the camera is a lot better than I thought it would be. Haven't tried it at night yet. Edit: I've now had this unit for 2.5 months. Camera still works perfectly. Night vision is actually pretty decent - the backup lights on my truck are pretty bright and I could even see a car parked across the street from my house. It's nothing like infrared and the image can be a bit grainy at night but you can easily identify people walking or parked vehicles. I also discovered that if a raindrop sits on the camera it looks like your LCD screen is broken in the truck. That gave me a heart attack the first time I saw that. Now as a part of my morning routine I wipe off my side mirrors and the camera at the same time and problem solved! ;-) Edit (2014-11-28): For those wondering about durability and longevity, I've now had this for about one year and four months. I've dropped things on the camera while loading my truck (if it wasn't metal I'm sure it would have broken), I've caught it with my toe climbing in and out of the truck bed, it's been through the carwash several times, it's been buried in snow a few times, covered in snowy mud from highways, and it's seen temperatures of about -20 celcius. The dang thing is still working! Edit (2018-03-10): Well, it seems the camera got moisture behind the lens making it useless (the camera still works but it is so blurry you can't tell what it's showing. Lasted about 5 years for me.
Review: Really good sub-$40 camera - I ordered one and received it in 2 days. Really fast shipping, however the camera stopped working after 10 minutes. I emailed for replacement and received another one 2 days after that. This time i plugged the camera on my TV and a 12volt power supply and let it run for about an hour. So far no problems. Install is pretty much straight forward. There is one video cable that has a red cable coming out of it that connects to the positive of the backup light and the other side to the back of your stereo or external monitor (thats what give the monitor the signal to automatically switch to the rear view). That cable it pretty thin and long enough to easily reach from headunit, toward driver side, down the footwell panel, underneath the door sill covers, behind the rear seat backrest and finally up the trunk lid arm with about 2 feet to spare. (05 Toyota Corolla S). There is another cable, about 3 feet long that powers the camera. That needs to be connected to the positive and negative of the reverse light. The negative can also be connected to any part of the car body. Some headunits require you to pick if the signal to switch to the rear-view video is negative, positive, or off if you dont want it to switch automatically.(keep that in mind before you blame the camera for you video not switching automatically). Day performance is extremelly good. The way i have the camera doesnt get hit by the sunlight so i dont know if it would glare alot or not. Low-light performance isnt that good but its good enough when you get closer to an object which and can clearly see how far you are. You can purchase some LED replacement bulbs for your vehicle and get alot more light and alot better low-light video quality. Superbrightleds.com is a good source.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How long is the power and negative cable from the camera?**
A: Negative is short, maybe 3'. Positive is maybe 10'. Needed an extension to install in my 2008 Silverado.

**Q: Also one more question for you all that have bought this back up camera. Is this hard to install because I haven't never had one it's for a lumina**
A: These are a pain to install. Its a pain running the cable from the radio head unit to the back of the car, to the trunk. I did it on a VW and needed the big manual to figure how to take the seat apart to get behind it. Also had to run through the trunk hinge area. Oh and the wiring in the breaklight that you need to tap into is crazy thin. Never did get mine to stay with the good connection and not enough slack to risk cutting this wire for lights that you need to be legal on the road. Spend the $100 to get this $20 part installed by a pro.

**Q: My screen/receiver wants a camera that "outputs mirror-reversed images". Does this camera output in such a way?**
A: I don't think it does. If your receiver is asking for mirror reversed images, if would have to reverse the image to show correct on screen.

**Q: I have European size license plate, how can I mount this camera? Thank you.**
A: I am not familiar with the European size of the licence plate. The mounting slots on the Pyle PLCM18BC are 7 inches apart at the narrowest, and 8.75 inches at the widest.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great product
*by K***K on October 26, 2013*

Product is exactly what I was looking for, a simple to install very impressive backup camera. Once installed it worked perfectly, images at night look great as well. I added this to a pioneer AVH-X2500BT head unit, and it was a great addition. I will list my pros and come bellow: Pro: 1.) Easy install 2.) Great image, both day and night 3.) Stylish, yet minimal addition to the vehicle 4.) Plenty of wire to run from my head unit to plate. No need for extension what so ever Cons: 1.) Wires did not match what Pyle had listed on their website, the. Video wire was to come with an additional wire attached l, it did not. I had to run the supplied video wire plus an additional wire to my head unit to trigger the head unit to turn on when in reverse. 2.) Power and ground wire gauge was very small, just expected a little more heavy duty. Overall great camera, only gave 4 stars because of the difference in what model number shows on the Pyle website and what I was supplied.
