Pacific Image ImageBox 9MP ST for Windows and Mac

Worked better than expected. I have used another brand before and it was very time consuming and quality was bad. The Pacific Image Box was user friendly, quality of pictures from old slides was much better. I still use a internet based photo finishing program to restore the original image as much as possible but would be satisfied to just have them like they are if that wasn't available. At least there will be no further degradation of the old photos now that they are digital. Image box is easy, quick and good quality.

I bought this for a friend who do not have a scanner but has a lot of pictures, slides, and negatives. It was perfect. Set up is easy. Basically just plug it in, insert the SD card, put in the picture, and then hit the button. It is not designed to scan any picture that's bigger that 4x6. It is also portable. Brought to a friend's house to scan old pictures for a party slideshow. Worked great and everyone loves it.

the good:It's fast, about 10 seconds or so per scan.if you have a standard image that doesn't have too much contrast, this scanner does an oustanding job for both negs and slides.the bad:The user interface is confusing, not intuitive, and takes a bit to get set up so you're actually doing what you think you're doing.If you have an image (slide) of, let's say, a face, lit by a candle, with a fairly dark background, this scanner tries to be smarter than you are and tries to correct the image. I have not been able to get it to understand that I knew what I was doing when I shot the original image, that I wouldn't be scanning the image if I didn't like it, and that I want it to let me figure out what I want to do. As it stands, I have a number of high contrast (that candle lit image with a dark background) images that I will have to put on my flatbed scanner to finish, because while it's slow, it's also dead on accurate.if you want to scan directly to your computer via the usb cable, you can't do that.you can scan to the card you put into the scanner.you can read on the computer from the scanner.but you can't do both at the same time (scan from the scanner directly to the computer)in fact, you can't even scan if you've got the usb cable plugged in.so...does it work?yes.does it work well?under narrow conditions... yes.is it a quality machine?the front element/screen was not glued in particularly well and came out while I was scanning - I used some of the tape that came with the scanner to hold it in place, so it works, but...would I buy it again?If there were some kind of firmware upgrade for this scanner that would allow a manual override (currently it appears to be +2 or -2 - and I need more than that to compensate for the scanner wanting to 'autoexpose' the image I'm scanning) I would be interested in an upgrade - the scanner part is fine, I just need to be able to control it so it does what *I* want it to do, not what *it* wants it to do...

I purchased this to transfer old 35 mm slides to digital format. The first machine I received had a scratch/dust somewhere that was showing up on every picture so I returned it to Amazon for another after contacting the company as they told me the machine can not be opened to clean/remove scratch or dust. The second machine I received took 3 minutes to copy each slide and then left thick black bars over half of the digital photo...another return. Third return try...the machine arrived new in box without a power cord and slide holder...useless!!! After 3 attempts I just gave up and received a refund from Amazon. TOTAL PIECE OF CRAP!!! DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM FROM THIS COMPANY!!!

Don't waste your time.Pros: It is simple to use. But that is about it.Cons: It seems poorly made. Just looking into the box and you can see dust on the glass on the inside. The scans it produced of photos were of marginal quality. It claims to scan up 120 film, but I don't see how that it is possible. Instead of the entire lid having a backlight surface, it is a small area suitable for 35mm or smaller.

Takes a few goes to get the hang of it, but it is a well built and fairly logical device. I bought it mainly to scan 35mm slides at high resolution - the penalty for the HR being that it does take several long seconds to process each image once scanned. But the results have been very good. The built-in image clarification process is moderately successful; although I had blown and wiped the slides as clean as possible before scanning, I still had to process out many dust marks digitally on my computer. From what I have read there is no silver bullet though. My feeling is that this is good value for money; I certainly couldn't afford the "high-end" models.

I was really pleased with the quality of the scans. I have a range of quality images to scan and the ImageBox does a great job on all. I haven't tried my slides yet, but have confidence that those will look as good if not better than the photos. I read the reviews and researched several devices within this price range. This one seemed to be closest to what I was looking for. A key point was that it didn't have to be connected to my computer and that I could scan away anywhere with power and then transfer the images. Now I'm not stuck in the home office scanning! If you're like me and have decades of photos stored that you want to digitize, this is a great choice.

Like most people who started saving photo memories, I started with a film camera, moved to a 35mm camera, then to digital. Time moves on. Over 25 years of stored film and slides were deteriorating...I knew it but could not afford a1000 to 5000 dollar scanner to save the memories. A Professional photographer friend of mine recommended this scanner to me. Fast ....better yet, as I scanned the old slides and film I was able to clean up and repair damage. I found that a cleaning solution and anti static brush were worth the small additional cost and time. Search for a usually free, online photo manager and it will all come together for you...digitize the photos, repair and improve the ictures and catalog them. I recommend this scanner.
