From a professional artist: A solid quality SCHOLASTIC grade of paper
I took a chance on this paper in spite of all the negativity I read in other reviews (not white enough, cockles with wet on wet, piling under the brush and so on). My conclusion after using a dozen sheets for fairly detailed studies? You could not reasonably expect anything better for this extremely low price. Scholastic grade watercolor paper purchased by the sheet can easily cost $2 PER SHEET. These come in at LESS than 1/10 of that cost! The paper is surprisingly very even in thickness (when held up to a light) for such a budget minded paper, and while it does begin to pill if you try to rework a wet area for very long I would say CLEARLY this paper isn’t intended for that sort of methodical, detailed reworking...if you want to do that, you need a paper that has been hard-sized...think of it this way: spend as much income per sheet as you intend to invest in painting it. Expecting cheap paper to be fantastic just means your setting yourself up for disappointment.I’ve done some minor lifting and isolated areas of wash with surprisingly satisfactory results. Is it my favorite paper or the best of worked on? Certainly not by any stretch of the imagination. Is it a decent surface for preliminary work, children and beginners? I’d say you won’t find anything remotely as good for those purposes anywhere near this price. It’s head and tails above what I’d expect for its cost.If you hate it, it doesn’t mean the paper is bad: most of the complaints relate to people who had unrealistic expectations and should have bought a more expensive paper with hard sizing.I’ve included a couple of sketches I’ve done on this paper. I’d buy it again.

Really like the paper
This is my first time buying this paper. At first I thought the paper was not good because they seemed to be a bit on the soft side. Today I painted on them and I was very amazingly surprised at the quality of this paper. I recommend this for watercolor definitely.

it does work, but is light weight.
I know people are complaining, this is too light weight to use for watercolour, but I like it anyway. It has nice texture. Has a sort of cottony feel to it. Yes it is quite light weight, no idea how light, (might be 80-90 pounds) but it oddly and successfully takes water quite well, and for me at least, does not ripple or buckle as much as some heavier paper I have used. I have used a lot of water on this.As long as you know what you are buying, you will not be disappointed, in my opinion. I was surprised by the weight, but am not disappointed. I use it to make small paintings, watercolour sketch books, and hand painted card fronts. It could probably be used for other things too. There is nothing wrong with this cotton paper, just be aware of the light weight quality. I will buy it again.

Good price
New comment updated on 20210712I am very sorry to say so, but the quality controls are not as good as before. They sold out the previous products and restock new merchandise from their provider. Even though the seller claimed that the manufacturer did not change any thing, the surface texture and the feeling of the material are completely different. Additionally, many sheets of them got spots(light purple tinny fiber) on it. The machine seemed not clean enough or material was mixed with some light purple tinny fiber. I loved the previous product but just not able to accept this new watercolor paper now. I hope they get improved soon, so that I can continual to shop from them. However, the price is still good.Previous comment:It is generally believed that the higher quality watercolor paper is for experts, and the less quality ones are for beginners. But I don’t think so. Beginners actually need to use the best watercolor paper to eliminate/avoid all the factors for failure, and concentrate on skills learning. Because higher quality watercolor paper can be painted and success easily, which is an encouragement for beginners. As an expert, you should be able to distinguish the advantages and disadvantages of each type of paper. While making effective use of the advantages, if you can use your own expert skills and expert ability to overcome the shortcomings, then any watercolor paper can accomplish good works. This is the ability that an expert should possess to be able to be called an expert. The advantage of this paper is its material, it can absorb just enough water needed for watercolor painting. We can do all tricks we want. The disadvantage is that it is too thin, light gray, and less wear-resistant. So why not just use softer brushes, lighter strokes and avoid applying too many layers to avoid being affected by its shortcomings. Use less water for wet on wet and blending to avoid destroy the sizing. You will know what I am saying when you really paint on it.So instead, I think this watercolor paper is for experts and it is not suitable for beginners. In contrast, experts are more capable of creating good works on this kind of paper than beginners. In short, good watercolor paper, I will say.

Good for watercolor beginners like me
This paper is not a substitute for professional quality watercolor paper. If you purchase it for that purpose you will probably be disappointed. However, it does provide the proper tooth and water absorption qualities needed to learn to paint with water colors (with the exception of some techniques, such as those requiring a very large amount of water absorption), to do quick sketches, or to do mixed media works with a modest amount of watercolor content. My opinion here is not an expert one, by any means, but for what it is worth, for beginners such as myself this seems to be exactly what you would want - acres of paper for all your experiments and on which to make all your learning mistakes - without the frustration of using the kinds of (wood pulp) paper which just do not work properly at all for the purpose and which actually impede your learning.
