The shell is solid with cushioning inside via the foam. The mesh pocket is big enough to fit the pocket juice battery along with other accessories. The zippers pull nice and smooth. The inner mesh pocket does have a metal zipper pull that at first concerned me with scratching the controllers but even with the awkward size of the pocket juice the zipper is no where near able to scratch the joy cons. At first when I put the switch in I noticed that there was no recess for the button extensions that are molded into the controllers and it sat angled but after messing around with it some more I realized that I could take out the foam bottom that the switch sits in and the corners were removable. I've tossed it across a sofa or into the backseat of my car a few times, my switch has zero damage.
