It came early, was simple to put together thanks to the video, and it's honestly beyond my expectations! Will update the review later in the season once we actually get bees in it! At this point it's a 10/10 for me though. Some of the other reviews noted a weird smell that I don't have present with mine here, it smells and feels like fresh wood. Seems to be of good quality and it's exactly the size I was expecting. All the pieces fit together as they were meant to. It looks exactly like the picture. The MayBee brood frames that pop up as "frequently bought together" are a perfect fit, in case you're questioning that. I also tested the autoframes just to get a feel and right now they're perfect, again gotta update when the bees do their work in it. Review: Amazing! - We bought one of these awhile back. Did a ton of research about types of paint that are acceptable. Made it a family event by painting each of our own hands and covering the hive (first picture top is backwards but is fixed now) We took quite a process to try and get the bees to accept the hive. It was recommended to leave them in the NUC the first few days while they get comfortable with the new environment. Then move a few frames over to the hive in the next week and wait to see if they accept… looks like they accepted. I then gave them a couple more weeks before adding the top of the hive. Updated 6/25/25 The bees have started to explore the top frames. I don’t see honey yet but I do see a few exploring. update 7/24/25 My bees have moved up top and are starting to work on filling the frames! Whoop! 8/13/25 Added a photo of the frames filling up more I can say it’s definitely worth it so far if you have the time and patience. Heads up- the directions aren’t fantastic. If you think something won’t fit together make sure you have it going the right direction. I am able to keep my bees without using chemicals or feeding sugar. I don’t even have to buy bees as I move wild swarms to my hives. Done in this fashion, very little effort is required. **Q: Has anyone used this to collect honey yet? How has it preformed?** A: We got 15 jars of honey during a fall flow in October 2020. The honey is clean, beautiful, and delicious. This was our second year with this set up, and the bees started depositing honey in the frames during the spring of 2020 (months after we set up this equipment). The summer came early and was so hot and dry, we let them keep all their honey until they had extra stores in a super we placed under the flow hive. That’s why we didn’t take our first harvest until October, while there were still lots of fall wildflowers available to the bees (in south Texas). They were very slow starting to use the plastic frames, but I have read on bee-keeping forums that they will start more quickly if you paint the plastic cells with wax. And the colony needs to be strong and crowded before they will start using these frames. Our bees only used the inner frames, so if you just looked inside the windows cut in the hive box, it appeared that they hadn’t built out the frames. But the box was heavy, very heavy, with the unseen honey inside. I plan to buy more of these and intersperse the used frames with new ones, hoping the previously waxed frames will encourage the bees to get started sooner and build out the frames more completely. The mechanism works very well, easy to use, and beautiful results — but you need to be patient. **Q: Could someone show me the additional products needed on amazon? Like brood box and frames and /or queen excluder so I get and idea what they are?** A: It comes with the queen excluder, but you will have to buy 10 standard langstrom full frames for the brood box which are easy to get and pretty cheap. Otherwise you just need standard bee equipment like bee suit, gloves, smoker, etc. **Q: Authentic flow hives are patented in the usa. this copy-cat version is not authentic. how can it be shipped legally into the us?** A: Copy cat or not.
