Cheap, nice looking, standard fit.
This Jensen Marine housing MRH211... made the install of my new Kenwood KMR-D558BT marine receiver into my old 1989 Mastercraft boat very easy. The Jensen is one single molded piece with a trim plate cover and rotating smoke plastic see thru cover. The metal "mounting sleeve" (DIN sleeve) from the Kenwood receiver clicked right into the Jensen and made it an easy install and plenty strong I think. You just install 4 screws in the front plate of the Jensen (which later is covered up with a trim plate shown in the pic), then the Jensen housing has a little shelf molded in it that holds up the back end of the receiver (as a secondary support), because mainly it is the tight fit of the "mounting sleeve" which clicks into the perfectly sized hole in the Jensen and then you bend its tabs down so it is held even more securely. Then my receiver slid right in and clicked into place into that metal mounting sleeve. In order to slide the receiver out in the future, my Kenwood came with 2 thin metal strips that you slide along each side that will unlock the tabs, and let you pull the receiver forward. Apparently SOME things in the world of electronics ARE standardized, like single DIN sleeves! I will go so far as to say that if you are replacing an old radio and have a hole already and access to all the wires from the inside of the hole, then you don't need any other access from below, just the hole. Cut the hole to the correct size, drill in 4 screws (MUST be secure) and you can do it all from the front through the hole. I was not so fortunate, the old radio had one of the old metal straps with holes in it that was screwed to my fiberglass so I had to get to it in order to remove the old unit, plus I had to rewire the power lines. Note: a little bit of clearance at the top is required for the see through cover which pivots up and out of the way, recessing into the area above the receiver, how much? dunno maybe 1/4 or 3/8" or a bit more? I mean, the hole you cut must have some open area at the top of it, behind the wall you are cutting into. I had to enlarge my old hole on the top and bottom anyhow, with a jig saw. Dimensions: At the Jensen web site, it says: Hole cutout: 8.5" x 3.41" Overall size (trim plate): 9.55" x 4.38" (to top middle curved area) I did not measure it myself.

Nice product!
Now this is more like it! That stupid hinge-open cover that came with the boat broke twice before I discovered this product. I did have to make the opening larger to accommodate this style, but I'm so happy I did... No more broken cover!!! Works nicely and stays out of the way in either position.

nice piece, good quality
This was replacing an old broken housing that no longer had its shield. To the point of one of the other reviews, it is bigger than my old one and required about a 1/4" bigger opening in both height and width. The holes also did not line up with the old one. I wasn't concerned about it, since I had no idea the brand of the old one, so couldn't match it up anyway. Once I cut the opening out, it installed easily and so far, seems like a nice unit. A couple of cautions. There was no paper mounting template which there should be, so if your installing this from scratch, you'll need to measure carefully before cutting in to your boat. Also, the spring loaded door is cool, but when it opens it requires space up above the opening to roll up in to (about 1/2"). My dash has an encapsulated wood reinforcement right above where the unit goes, and even after opening the height up to fit by moving it down, I still had to shave a little material off so it would open and close smoothly. We'll see how it holds up, but so far so good.

Nice look, works as described!
Put this to use on a Polaris RZR for a stereo system, it has been on a little while in some ugly weather and mudding,,, super happy how it protects, the cover is pretty dark, it is hard to see through it to check out stations,,, but other than that, love it.

Quality unit, not what I was expecting
Wish they would have given a side shot. Will not work for standard hole sizing. Just a heads up.

Great Value - Better than advertised
My experience with this unit was very good. Yes: It was larger than the factory opening in my boat and required an enlargement of the opening. All well worth the effort, however in that the larger footprint is need to house what you cant see from the pictures: This unit has a shelf for the radio that include double sided sticky tape.. This makes for a very sturdy installation base for the radio. I coupled this housing with another great Amazon deal: The Dual XDMA6415 200-Watt AM/FM/CD/MP3/WMA Receiver with Built-In Bluetooth. Perfect combination and fit / finish.

Looks nice and houses radio well.
Looks nice and glides open and closed. You can flip it open or closed very easily while riding. Nice smoke color and comes with trim to cover it in the fairing. I recommend cbecking for any gaps and maybe using some type of caulk or sealant.

front bezel clips on nice and securely
Very solid construction, front bezel clips on nice and securely. I did have to cut out my existing hole just a little bit that wasn't an issue. The only complaint that I have is that my DIN sleeve did not clip in at all. I tried and couldn't figure out a way that it would secure the radio into the housing. Maybe I was doing it wrong, I don't know, but from what I could tell it just didn't have a place to clip it. Thankfully, there is some pretty good double sided sticky tape that is securing the radio now and although this is not ideal, it works. For the money you can't go wrong, looks awesome in my boat!
