Extnp Auto Focus Macro Extension Tube Set (12mm 20mm 36mm) for Nikon AF AF-S DX FX SLR Cameras

Good product. Great intro to macro photography. Feels a little cheap but have had no issues with attachment. I swap them out a lot when trying for different magnification levels and they seem like they will hold up. I have not tried other brands but at this price point I assume they are all about the same. They work fine with AF/metering on my D7000 even when using all 3 and I have not had any weird behavior so far. Definitely get a set like this one that has the AF/metering connections. With this set and a standard 50mm prime lens you can get some very close shots. You can also use these with a dedicated macro lens to get even more magnification. A couple tips for this setup: You will move the camera instead of the focus ring in order to change focus so manual focus mode is recommended. Depth of field is extremely shallow - a tripod is very helpful unless you have very stable hands. For static subjects it helps to have a focusing rail, otherwise you can just move the camera slightly and take a bunch of shots. "Live View" mode is very helpful in focusing since you can set the aperture high and still see your DoF/focus on the screen. If you are going for a "budget macro" photo setup, I'd recommend you also pick up a reversing ring and aperture control set for another 30 bucks or so. For extreme close-ups you may need to use "focus stacking" software like Zerene Stacker to produce the images you want. This is a solid alternative to an expensive dedicated macro lens and I am very happy with it.

I use to own a tamron 60mm f2 macro lens for d7100 and I loved it. but sometime last year my gear got stolen. I was able to afford a new camera but at this point in time the funds are not there for a new macro lens. So I decided to go with some extension tubes. They are cheap and well within my budget. I knew some of the limitation on extension tubes i.e. loosing infinity focus, loosing stops of lights and limited working distance. so with this in mind, I will give you my honest opinion, they are made of plastic the coupling rings on the lens side are made of metal but the camera side are plastic. The locking mechanism seems a little rough but secure when attached to the camera and the lens. I tried using all three together and though the camera was still reading the lens, the lens would not focus with my 50mm 1.8d. I tried it with a dx lens and it worked fine. I think the mechanical linkage to drive the focus ring disengages with the weight. Individually did not have any issues or with two. camera was loud focusing with the 1.8d. As far as test pictures, I was impressed. I would recommend getting some kind of ring light. Pictures I have attached are with my 50mm 1.8d. first shot is with no rings attached at about 18in. second is with the 36mm at about 2 inches, third is the 20mm at about 4in and the last is the 12mm at about 6in. all mounted on a tripod. Would I recommend these.. if you are on a budget and don't have the money for a macro lens go for it. But if you have the money buy a dedicated macro lens they are more versatile than these rings.

UPDATE:I am changing my rating to 5. The picture of the grasshopper was taken in the wild with all three tubes on a Nikon D810 with a Nikon 80-400mm lens on manual focus. These tunes are sturdy and supports my heavy lens just fine. For the price they are great. They work. However you need to learn how to use them if you have not used extension tubes before. The BAD: - The 12mm tube is broken. Amazon promptly replaced the set. Now everything works. ***AMAZON REPLACED THEM WITH NO QUESTIONS ASKED. THE NEW TUBES WORKS FINE. - When I use more than one tube the autofocus does not work. It searches and on rare occasions will lock on but the shutter will not release. *** DON'T USE AUTOFOCUS. IN TIME IT WILL ANNOY YOU SO BAD. MANUALL FOCUS IS MORE RELIABLE EVEN ON A MACRO LENS THAT HAS AUTOFOCUS. The build quality: They do not feel cheap to me. But they are plastic with metal bits that connect them together. I have one pretty heavy lens and I support the camera by the lens just to be safe. Dropping a $100.00 lens is not funny and I am not going to take that chance. However these extension tubes do feel pretty solid. THEY EASILY SUPPORTS A 3+ POUND LENS. I HAVE BEEN USING IT ALL TAY AND I HAD NO ISSUES. The good: - That price. Yep that price and that they work really well except the do not autofocus w\as promised. - Image quality. Judge for yourself. This is what I got. Your experience may differ depending on a lot of factors. - Build quality. For plastic they are solid and holds even my heavy 80-400mm lens. However I do support the camera by the lens because the lens is heavy. Final thoughts: You really don't want to use autofocus when doing macro photography. So manual focus is better. therefore I really cannot find any real fault with these extension tubes.

This set appears to be well built well enough, although you won't find the build quality to be anywhere close to Nikon's. The set functions fully with my 50mm f1.4 G lens on my D7000 body. I've also tested with my older 50mm 1.8 D lens. I have no problems with mounting/dismounting lenses or connecting/disconnecting to the camera body with single or multiple tubes. Metering and autofocus both work the way they should. With high magnification, usually manual focus is much more practical, but the metering is essential for correct TTL exposure. I've only tested in Aperture priority mode, since you would normally want to stop the lens down a bit to get more depth of field. This set does what it is designed to do. If you want to do macro photography without spending a fortune, this is a really good option. I would recommend going this route over trying to use close-up filters. Update: I tested this with my 1965 vintage 55mm micro-Nikkor (AI converted) and it metered flawlessly mounted on two stacked tubes.

I would give ZERO stars if I could. Save yourself hours of anger and frustration. I don’t usually leave reviews, but this product deserves it. These extension tubes jammed onto my lens and would not come off. The release tab/pin mechanism either failed immediately or was manufactured out of tolerance. I followed normal mounting and removal procedures (align, click, press release, rotate) and the lens would not rotate free at all. The release tab had little to no effect - clearly the locking pin wasn’t retracting properly. This isn’t just inconvenient - it’s dangerous for your gear. I was one step away from damaging a much more expensive lens trying to remove a $20 accessory. No product like this should ever have the potential to trap itself onto your lens mount. Build quality feels cheap, tolerances are off, and the locking mechanism is unreliable. This isn’t a learning curve issue - it’s a mechanical failure. If you value your camera or lenses at all, do not buy these. Spend more on a reputable brand or skip tubes entirely. This is the definition of “false economy.” Returned immediately. Never again. You’ve essentially ruined my entire day and caused me to experience such intense emotion I’m surprised I didn’t go to the emergency room. I wish you the absolute worst in selling this product.

Construction is a hollow, cheap plastic shell with a low quality metal mount. They make an odd grinding sound when attaching to my lenses which is a bit disconcerting to hear. Can be a little ornery getting all three to click together in order to make AF work. First couple tries worked fine but when I switched up the order they stopped working. But when they work they.. work. Heavy vignetting occurs on the top and bottom left side of the frame with my 24-120mm f/4 even at 120mm and stopped down to f/11. All in all I'm ok with them, but if I was doing a lot of work with these I would opt for a better built set from another company. I have some ancient extension tubes (non AF/AE) that are sooooo much better made than these. These feel super cheap and plasticky. Fun to play with for sure, but I'll be looking to buy a dedicated macro lens in the future!

I am very pleased with these. I didn't have any issues with them not fitting or being too tight. They are easy to put on and take off. I have an 8 year old model Nikon D60 SLR and am nothing more than a casual photographer so didn't want to spend the money on a dedicated macro lens. I tried these out with my regular lens (18-55 mm) and my zoom lens (55-200 mm). The fittings were snug and secure. I had no issue with the auto-focus even with all three extensions attached. They worked well and after some experimentation I was able to achieve some interesting effects with close up photos of different objects. I am looking forward to learning how to make the most of them. I liked how these worked attached to the zoom lens so I could get a nice tight shot and still be pretty far away from the subject.

They're very plasticky and feel quite cheaply made. There's not a lot of moving parts on them so I can't imagine they'll break. Auto-focus does work, although it struggles to maintain focus while being handheld on my Nikon D3300. A tripod would probably make it much more reliable. These are definitely superior to using a reverse macro ring as you don't lose functionality of the aperture. However, I did notice when trying to take a few macro shots of my houseplants in front of a bright window that I get a lot of light leaking in from the side causing a haze over the photo... particularly with the longer tubes. I assume this is light reflecting off of the interior of the tube and hitting the sensor. A lens hood might help.. but with such a short focal distance, the hood would probably bump into what you're trying to shoot. This might make shooting outdoors on a bright day impossible. I might be tempted to glue some black fabric inside. Overall, I'm happy with these tubes.

I am so impressed with this product. I did think it would work as well as it does. Gives you super clear macro shots, you can choose how close you want to go by changing the tubes. Also you can use Auto Focus with these tubes. I love them and use them when every I want to take macro photos. I have added some of my photos I've taken with the tubes. Saves you over a $1.000 on a macro lens. I would recommend these tubes to any one. I am using a Nikkor 18-55 lens with the tubes.
