Connectivity is an issue
Sound is great, nice looking unit that you can leave out. Did not immediately recognize my Mac nor my iPhone and sometimes, still doesn't [unlike ueboom]. don't forget to disconnect when you're done, otherwise it'll keep beeping until you shut it off. also, unit doesn't stay on. you've gotta flip the on/off switch on and off to reactivate the unit [again, unlike the ueboom; which by the way has the most irritating connection/disconnection sound you've ever heard]. unit's not particularly loud - volume maxes out sometimes leaving you wanting.NOTE: After a year and more at home using this thing, connectivity is a never healing irritant, but I no longer care - the sound is superior to the same size Bose and UEBoom speakers - largely because this things delivers in stereo - with all the streamed classical stuff I tapped into, the difference is night and day. oddly enough, for playbacks when contributing to a choral or instrumental compilation, the mono speakers work better, but for concerts and such, wow, great great sound. I have hardwood floors throughout the house and I put it on the floor set about 8" to a foot from the wall - under furniture is fine too. vivid, lively - timpani, plenty of bass - amazing. hope it lasts forever.

Terrible sound.
I really wanted this to be a good purchase, but it sounded awful. Lower frequency sounds came out buzzy, and there was a range of frequencies around 2000Hz that were just absent. Truly terrible. Bluetooth, Aux In, on battery, plugged in, it didn't matter. Also, it was difficult to pair initially, but finally it did and I didn't have any further pairing problems after that. I returned it and didn't want to bother taking another chance on it. Too bad, really, as it looked nice and had a good heft to it. The buttons sounded and felt cheap, but for $30, I would have easily overlooked that as long as it sounded ok. I suppose it was defective considering that other people report that it sounds good to them.

cool for the price ($30)Nice finishing quality and power level, the desireable feature is to have a treble/bass controlI tested a JBL Flip and this speaker playing the same recording.JBL does offer a crispier sound. In the other side, Nakamichi offers stronger bass. The fact most dissapointed me and the reason I grant 3* b/c when the device is plugged to charger, you can hear some back noise in the speaker. it is gone when unplugged.

Great bass at a cost
My first impression was the packaging. Overall it looked like quality packaging, but I quickly noticed it was very dirty and scuffed, even under the plastic wrap. Like it had suffered a hard life coming over on the boat, maybe unusually rough seas. Anyway thats going in the trash so it didn't concern me much. However after opening it, I noticed some wear on the plastic, like at least one other reviewer said. There are scuff marks near the corners as if the the containing plastic itself had been rubbing it too much. Again, must have been a rough ride. Normally this would have prompted me to return it. But I ordered it just in time for a 1200 mile driving trip with otherwise no radio, so I hadn't much choice to take it with me. Meanwhile I scratched it up more myself, so now I can't return it. Not a huge deal.Moving on, it is about the size of a brick and darn near as heavy. It feels very solid, so I`m not concerned with traveling with it.The sound - I only have a Soundfreaq Kick to compare it too. The sound of this unit is much warmer and more bass than the Kick. That itself is great, but it comes at the expense of the mids and highs. I have trouble hearing the highs such as cymbals over the lows. The Kick doesn't have as much bass, but does have overall better range. Volume is about the same between them. I would say for listening at low levels I prefer this due to it's warmth, but for anything above mild levels I`d choose the Kick. However, and this is big to note, I got the Kick refurbished for $30 shipped. I would never dream of paying the standard $80-100 for it! Can't believe people pay that much, IMO it isn't THAT good and totally sucks when unplugged from 110v power. So when comparing the $35 Nakamichi to spending $80 or more on the Kick, it's Nakamichi all the way - at least it sounds normal when on battery power.I can't say how long the battery lasts as I haven't run it out. It went for hours on end while driving 1200 miles over 3 days, only charging at night. That tells me it's also going to last a cookout in the summer. so thats all I`ll ever need.Oh and one bad thing, it is finicky with the bluetooth connection (Galaxy S4). If I leave my phone sit still it's perfectly fine, but If i move it around and sometimes just cover my hand over the top like to pick it up, the connection "skips" a second. This is well within range, even about 10 feet. By contrast, the Kick does not have this issue. I can deal with it but needs mentioned.

It is not listed but this speaker is rated at 10 watts like other, more expensive bt speakers and what caught ...
A hidden gem! I have 4 bluetooth speakers and this beats them all and was the cheapest price out of all of them. I have a photive syren (blew a speaker after 3 months), jabra soulmate, shark 10 watt bt, and now this nakamichi. It is not listed but this speaker is rated at 10 watts like other, more expensive bt speakers and what caught my eye was the slit where they placed the bass resonator. That one design characteristic seems to just amplify the bass and you don't have to place it by the wall to have it bounce the bass back at you, its just built that good. It seems its not a powered bass speaker in the slit but is just as good if not better than the jabra soulmate (which I love and costs over $100 more) which does have a powered bass speaker. This thing also weighs almost 1 1/2 times heavier than the heaviest bt speaker its size. I wonder if its the casing that gives it that weight or they purposely put weights in it. The design was definitely thought out. It is like some guy spent weeks on amazon and read all the reviews then bought some of the best performing speakers then put them all into one package and slapped a super low price on it. Yes it is that good and for the price it can not be beat as of the time of this review.
