JVC Projectors Are as Good as the Hype
Love love love this projector!! I upgraded from an Epson Home Cinema 5040UB projector and I’m so shocked at how much of an improvement the JVC NX5 has been. I thought the black levels on the Epson were pretty good good compared to most other projects under $3k, but the black levels are out of this world on the JVC NX5!!! It’s simply impressive to see bright white text appear on totally black scenes. The contrast is also superb—making the wide ranges between bright whites and dark shadows generate plenty of drool when I was HDR content. HDR performance is greatly enhanced over the Epson as well. Colors simply pop, and contrast in scenes is lovely. The dynamic tone mapping feature is really where this projector shines. It’s what allows me to truly set advanced level picture settings to my preference. It can maintain really dark shadows and simultaneously improve the brightness of skin tones quite easily. I also love that the projector saves the tone mapping settings by the type of video output. I use an Apple TV 4K and set it to match HDR content and frame rate—this is how the magic happens. The projector is smart enough to enable the preferred HDR and tone mapping settings that you have set per the signal type. Other nice features to note: native 4k sensor for astonished sharp images, motorized lens for easy vertical and horizontal lens shifting, focus, and resizing of the video image. Simple remote with backlighting. Minimal fan noise.Only cons: very heavy—requires heavy duty mounts to support the nearly 50lbs of weight, no HDMI-CEC so you must run a trigger wire to auto power on the projector with source devices.

true 4k and HDR
Awesome projector if you have a light treated room or a bat cave. It wouldnt be my first pick if i was setting up a living room projector but in my dedicated theater its phenomenal. I can definitely see a difference between the clarity on this and a couple of the 4k pixel shifter projectors out there like the Epson 5040, though you pay a price for this difference as the Epson is a couple thousand less.JVC projectors have always been known to have great black levels and this one does as well, with good contrast and hdr tone mapping to boot. This is the first projector ive seen where i think the hdr is more than just a gimmick. The difference between a blu ray and a uhd version of the same movie make that clear. Ive got mine paired with a Panasonic ub820 and together i cant imagine a better image for the price. Dont expect it to be as bright as your television but im projecting onto a 133" screen from 22 feet away and i can say its brighter than my local cinema. I dont have a light meter or Id be more specific here, but trust me you wont be disappointed.Be prepared to purchase a hefty ceiling mount though if you're going that route. This thing is big, and heavy! So much so I ended up shelf mounting it in the back of the room instead. Noise wise I can hear it if Im within a couple feet of it while its in high lamp mode (which i prefer) but in low lamp mode its completely silent. The remote is small and hard to see in the dark, though it is back-lit once you press a button, i find the controls a little cumbersome to navigate but the menus are pretty straight forward. One of my favorite features is that it saves zoom and position settings so you can just select a preset and go back and forth between watching super widescreen movies and the more TV friendly 1.85 aspect ratio movies as well once you zero them all in. Thats a feature that was missing in the comparably priced Sony model that helped make my decision even easier. All in all I have to say I do not regret buying this and Ive owned it for 6 months now so Ive had time to break it in and get to know it! Highly recommend if its in your budget!

True 4k. Amazing HDR.
I absolutely love this projector. If you have it in a light controlled room, you're going to be amazed by the picture it puts out. True 4k, no e shifting, it's pretty quiet also. Buy a solid mount though as it's pretty heavy.

Get ready for greatness, Lloyd!
Purchased it as part of my mid-life crisis home theatre. Absolutely zero regrets.
