A Pure and Simple Alliance with the Simmons Truplex
Dateline: A Sun-Drenched Field, Somewhere Out Past the Last Traffic Light. In an age of tactical excess, of scopes with more buttons than a pilotโs cockpit and reticles that look like a schematic for a particle accelerator, there is a profound, almost spiritual purity in simplicity. We have been conditioned to want moreโmore magnification, more illumination, more features that can and will fail you at the exact moment of truth. But sometimes, all you need is a clean, honest look at the world downrange. This is the gospel of the Simmons Truplex. And its perfect pulpit is the back of a vintage Marlin Model 60, a rifle that shares its simple, unpretentious soul. The scope arrives with no airs, no graces. It comes with a set of rings, a simple tube of black metal, and a promise of clarity. There are no batteries to install, no fancy red dots to flicker and die, no parallax knobs to fiddle with. There are just two turret caps, beneath which lie the "TrueZero" adjustment knobs. The name itself is a prayer. Slapping it on top of the old Marlin was the work of minutes. A clean, easy marriage of two like-minded machines. The real shock came at the first shot. Out of the box, the zero was almostโฆ perfect. A few clicks, a slight nudge of the crosshairs, and it was dead-on. It was a moment of quiet, mechanical harmony, a sign that these two pieces of hardware were meant for each other. Then came the plinking. Hours of it. An endless, happy afternoon spent turning a brick of .22LR into a pile of spent brass and a chorus of satisfying pings from a distant target. And through it all, the Simmons held its ground. It did not wander. It did not stray. The little black crosshairs stayed exactly where I put them, a fixed point of unwavering certainty in the world. It held zero with a stubborn, quiet dignity. The glass is not some thousand-dollar German masterpiece, but it doesn't have to be. It is clean. It is clear. It gathers the light and presents you with a sharp, honest image of your target. For the kind of work a .22 is meant for, it is absolutely, unequivocally perfect. You see what you need to see, without distortion, without fuss. This scope is a throwback, a testament to a time when a tool was judged by how well it did its one intended job. It is a simple, reliable, and shockingly effective piece of glass for a price that feels like a pleasant fiction. It is the perfect, no-frills companion for a no-frills rifle. It doesnโt try to be anything itโs not, and in doing so, it achieves a kind of perfection that the more complicated, over-hyped optics can only dream of. It just works. And sometimes, thatโs the highest praise you can give.

Good Quality - Great value
Excellent quality and value with a trusted brand name. I've used Simmons before and like them. Very clear optic.

Good item
Appears to be a good product and it should work well for what I needed.

Performs adequately for the price, but could be improved at little to no cost by the factory.
The Good: The image is as bright and crisp as any cheap Chinese 32mm scope should be expected to be. The build quality seems fairly robust. The best thing this optic has going for it is the very light weight. The fast focus eyepiece is also convenient and effective. The Bad: Just one thing: the "generous" eye relief (as manufacturers like to call it) is simply way too much for a rimfire rifle, and it results in a fairly small image. Small eye box makes eye relief and position much more critical than many similar scopes I own. Simmons built a lightweight, robust, attractive, and clear scope for a low price. My complaint is that the ridiculously long eye relief forces the shooter to mount the scope very far forward in the rings. This may not be an option on rifles with short length of pull. or short mounting bases. The real problem is that the absurdly long eye relief produces is that the image through the scope is smaller than it needs to be. After looking through any of my Bushnell scopes at similar magnification, the image from the .22mag just seems too small and far away. The "generous" eye relief is great on low-powered magnum-level dangerous game recoil with obscene recoil, but is just a hindrance to solid performance for a rimfire scope. I think the huge following of the .22mag scope is based on internet gossip. A few people bought this scope and liked it pretty well, so they told their friends and talked them up in the forums. Then, as forums are so wont to do, people read these reviews and then regurgitated the praise like it was the gospel. Rest assured, this is an average scope for the money, and a very poor scope compared to scopes costing only slightly more. I bought this scope based on its good reviews and the very light weight, as I was mounting it on an ultralight ruger 10/22 that I recently assembled. (3 lbs, 7 ounces without scope). The scope has held zero fine, and tracks about as well as can be expected for a cheap chinese optic, but it just doesn't ever make me think, "Wow, I can't believe the great quality of this scope!" I also tried a Simmons 3.5-10x44 side focus scope and had basically the same complaint with it. It had absurdly long eye relief and a tiny eye piece, which made it painfully underwhelming to look through. I think I will stick to Bushnell for budget optics from here on out. I have NEVER been dissatisfied with a Bushnell product, and I guess I can stomach the extra couple of ounces to know that I will have a scope that is actually enjoyable to look through.

Love the Simmons 22 Mag 4x32
This is my second Simmons 22 mag 4x32 scope. The optics are bright and clear. The first one is 30 years old and is still as good as the day I bought it. You just can't beat it for the price. Scope works great for this application and comes with the mounting rings. Rings fit perfectly on the dovetail of a Henry 22 magnum rifle. For $35, it is the best rifle scope deal available.

SUPER Value!!!
I have been looking for a good quality scope for a Ruger 10/22 rifle. I was not looking to spend more on the scope than the rifle. I looked at Tasco, Bushnell, BSA & Barska. They all had offerings in the target price range, 4x/32mm or 3-9x/32mm. I found a Bushnell that was very impressive but is a model that no one stocks anymore [but still on their webpages]. I was not very impressed with the clarity of the Tasco, BSA or Barska's. I started reading a lot of reviews in forums on this scope. The best price was on Amazon, for about $33 delivered I was skeptical. I received it in less than a week in perfect condition and all I can say is WOW! Yes, it is made in CHINA...everything is these days and that's a whole other topic for me. But it is a really solid well made scope that gets the job done. I love the recticle pattern and focus knob, some said it was too tight, mine turns with just the right twist resistance. The optic brightness is similar to a 12 year old Nikon I have and like that I originally spent nearly $200 on. I'm not saying it is a Nikon BUT is in the legendary brightness range of a Nikon. I would definitely buy this one again. I'll post an update as I use it and sight it in. UPDATE: 4/12/2014: Still happy & recommend this scope for what it is [see above] My son uses it on his 10/22 from 50' [indoor range] to 100 yards, it will occasionally drift from zero a tiny amount, not enough to miss your target but so you just cant drill the target with it. My son really likes my 4x Nikon [I also reviewed that one] and keeps trying to convince me to 'trade'. Nice Try son! Anyways he is saving his money to buy a Nikon, which is fine b/c he is getting older and will appreciate an optic upgrade especially when he buys it for himself.

Great scope!
Got it on sale which makes it an unbelievable value. Used on a low-med power break barrel pellet rifle known for accuracy. Did not disappoint. Sighted in 6 shots and accuracy equal to a scope costing 5x. Lightweight and easy to adjust. 4x32 will work great for most short/med range shooting. Wish I had more guns to put one of these on!

Mounted on Stoeger X10 high powered air rifle. Works well. Keeps true.
Easy to install, works on Stoeger X10 without any variations in shots. Fairly accurate and easy to sight in. Good scope for the price. Would not mount on anything more powerful than .22lr.
