Women, Work & the Art of Savoir Faire: Business Sense & Sensibility

What Every Working Woman Should Read
Mireille Giuliano has produced yet another "must-read" book for women interested in leading a balanced, joyful and accomplished life. She demonstrates, with examples from her own very successful life, how a woman can move up the career ladder without having to sacrifice her personal life, or mental/emotional health. Giuliano believes in following one's own passion and making (or finding) a career that best encompasses that passion (hers being food, wine and travel). She recognizes the difficulty in finding one's vocation and discusses "the debate we must all go through of talent versus opportunity versus passion" (p. 35).She argues that life is lived in episodes and stages and that what is right at one stage, may no longer be right in the next. Episodes for Giuliano are more arbitrary and self-contained, while stages are more like steps in a progression towards a goal, which need to be managed carefully and with savoir faire.I found that her discussion of women in positions of leadership was most inspiring. In chapter 10 "(Business) Women and Men are Different" Giuliano writes about the way women corporate executives are described in movies as "she-witch diva [s]", manipulative, untrustworthy, "people-using-and abusing" etc.... This stereotype puts off many young ambitious women, who do not want to turn into those self-centered monsters, and would prefer to remain in a lower, safer position and away from the mayhem of the executive suite. Guiliano demonstrates in Women Work and the Art of Savoir Faire that a woman in a leadership position can be a model of order, reason and sanity, and that more women should strive for the top positions in their organizations. A great read!

Great reading, entertaining, and it has sensible tips.
Great reading, entertaining, and it has sensible tips. I do agree that balance is crucial, whether at work or in my private life. I have incorporated her suggestions of balancing out my diet, such as if I over indulge one day, the next I cut back a bit. I also pay more attention to pamper myself a bit, which often times falls short with being a working mom and mother of a toddler. But I try to take care of myself so that I feel balanced and centered, which translate to a better wife and mom. Also, I slowly make my own style and pay more attention to what really works for my appearance, rather than trying to fit into the images that I see on magazines and TV.

Advise from someone who knows
Mirielle Guiliano was the CEO of Veuve Clicquot Champagne. I am interesed in successsful, powerful business women who manage to retain their female side. Ms. Guiliano clearly understands the importance of innovation, branding and quality control for managing a company. Yet, she never feels like she has to be "one of the boys" in order to be successful. All of the ideas in the book clearly support this concept.

Wonderfully interesting book and a perfect service of Amazon!
I chose this book, because I was very interested in the topic of this book. When I have read an abstract, I realized that it was exactly what I want to read. Currently, I am reading this book, and I must say that it is full with a great number of useful information, that was writing by a very talented woman. Mireille Guiliano is a type of person who is smart, interesting, honest. Your books are absorbing. They are really helpful in life.

Started well. . .
Perhaps my expectations were higher than they should have been, but I felt rather let down by the end of the book. Mireille Guiliano seems like a lovely lady; very chic, very enthused with life and happily willing to share all this with us and for that I am appreciative, but I read her book almost immediately after finishing Ivanka Trump's business book and so don't laugh when I say that although they may seem poles apart in the generation stakes these ladies were very similar in their advice; putting in the hours, hand written notes and behaving like a lady. . . I think I was expecting something a little more profound from Ms. Guiliano given all her years in business and life; the secret of how to obtain that "je ne c'est quoi" would have been nice - this vital ingredient which chic, stylish older women tend to exude, and which is of course called confidence. Maybe that is why Ms. Trump's book is not dissimilar - both these ladies exude oodles of confidence.Of course it could also be that the advice given by both women is simply timeless but needs to be said in a variety of ways to capture each new generation or to remind those of us who've been around a while that old-fashioned methods still work. . . A nice read if you've not read any business or lifestyle books in a while.

Another wonderful book by Mireille Giuliano
Another wonderful book by Mireille Giuliano. Always generous in sharing stories and tips, valuable at any stage of your career, in professional and personal life. I love the passage where she says that, sometimes, when she is having a meal she is already thinking about the next one. Someone would say that of myself as well! And now I feel like in very good and special company!

Read this book if you want to suceed in any businesses
This book is actually one of the best leadership books I have read. My note indexed copy is my go to guide on how to circumnavigate the business world while maintaining a strong but yet feminine approach to life. The book is blunt but fair on what to expect in business but told in such a down to earth manner it makes the high power life of a top corporate player accessible and real

Encantadora
Encantadora lectura, se asemeja a una larga charla con una buena amiga. Una mujer que comparte un medio poco accesible y muy codiciado. En general, todas sus obras son sensacionales.
