RE: the comment "Don't be misled, this is a Morman Rendition"
Actually, there is nothing "Mormon" about this "rendition" whatsoever. The publisher and the introduction by Jeffrey Marsh are mormon but the rendition itself is not. This English rendition was first published in 1840 by a non-Mormon publisher. Joseph Smith, the founder of Mormonism said a favorable comment about it and then a mormon publishing company(J.H.Parry) acquired the copyright to it and republished it in 1887. The 1840 edition was actually published by a Jew and point in fact this is the only "book of Jasher" that has any possibility of being the actual lost book of the bible, that is actually based on a Hebrew text. The English rendering is actually a very good translation of the Hebrew. This Hebrew text does exist and is available (I have 4 Hebrew copies of it myself). The oldest copy of the Hebrew text that is now known to exist was printed in 1625. Needless to say, this is long before the Mormon religion came on the scene. So no, this is not a Mormon rendition, and no, it really is based on a Hebrew original. Is it folklore? Lets just let one decide that for themself but please lets not be so hasty. There is a vast amount of parallels with Jasher and other ancient literature, such as the Talmud and other Jewish writings. But there are not only Jewish parallels! There are also great similarities with other ancient literature such as greek mythology(which may be based on a seed of truth), and the Koran. Actually, there are many reasons to believe that this book dates much farther back than 1625 and may in fact be the book mentioned twice by the Bible. So please dont just pass up this book based on the comments of people who really shouldnt be trying to educate others on things in which they are ignorant. Check it out for yourself. I find the book of Jasher to be exciting, informative and inspiring! But there are publishers and versions that you might find more informative(...sorry Jeffrey, but the middle paragraph on page X of your introduction "smack"s too close to plagiarism of "Appendix A" of Wayne Simpsons version. I can handle your Mormon views but simply copying anothers work is not fair to the original author).

This Version is the best Iโve read!
I bought this book along with the Lexham English Septuagint. They both complemented each other so well. When you read scriptures of ancient origin, you must have an open mind as to what those scriptures are trying to convey because some words might not mean what in modern times know those words mean, example: The word โServantโ to the ancient prophets โservantโ would mean a person with No particular spiritual leadership in the world. I recommend this book as well as the LES. I love this book. It has enhanced my understanding of the Written Word of God. God Bless!

Very Interesting Anachronistic Reading
Reprint of an anonymous 1840 translation of the Hebrew manuscript purported to be the ancient Book of Jasher, referred to in Joshua and 2 Samuel as a source. Sections of this read like they could have been the real Book of Jasher, but parts of it read like a later knockoff version of the story. There are some tipoffs in terminology and naming that indicates at least sections of it were written quite late in Hebrew/Jewish history. The reference Ur of the Chaldeans, for instance, is a late reference, since in the time of Abraham, the city of Ur and surrounding area of Mesopotamia did not belong to the Chaldeans. The latter were a people farther down river toward the mouth of the Tigris and Euphrates, who took over the Assyrian Empire in the 600-500s BC. The famous Nebuchadnezzar was a Chaldean. It was the Chaldeans who conquered Jerusalem and took groups of Judeans into exile in their domains of Babylon. The phrase "Ur of the Chaldees" (Ur of the Chaldeans) comes from that era of the Babylonian Exile. We note in the biblical text the phrase occurs only two time in later retellings of the story of Abraham. The original story in Genesis 12 does not say anything about Ur belonging to the Chaldeans. So it would be odd if the source text, which this is claimed to be, would have the term. This desgination was not applicable till in the 600s BC.

Excellent cover to cover reading
Usually books that refer to Biblical time periods are difficult and slow reads for me as I strive to absorb the information, but this was a fascinating accountof Cain, Seth, and other characters of the The Holy Bible, but included in this is an interesting part about Nimrod and Abram that explains a lot of gaps in theKing James Version and even how Jacob mourned bitterly over what he thought was evidence of his son Joseph's death (who was actually sold into slavery).Everything jives with the dates and stories of the original books of Moses, but they give further insights and are easier to read. This was enjoyable! as the Mordecai M. Noah states, this is a "work of great antiquity and interest" and, apparently, one of the most accurate translations of the 1840 book left today.

Historical and Biblical Facts, As Well As, Precepts
I was very pleased with the speed of receiving this ancient writing...Amazon really delivers, prompt and on time. I still haven't read it all, but I have read some of the chapters. I am very pleased with the "additional information" that Jasher seems to give and support regarding the book of Genesis written by Moses [especially on the decendants of Esau and his children (Zepho); as well as the additional info on the parting of the Red Sea. (it was split in 12 streams)]. It is definitly a book I will be referring to over and over again for historical and biblical facts, as well as precepts. Highly recommended...Shalom!

Good history!!!
This is a good historical account of things ommitted and contained in the Bible briefly. It gives much more information on the things from Adam to Moses in the Holy Bible. Some things are to be taken with a grain of salt, but others are definitely extremely enriching! When you read it, just ask the Holy Spirit to tell you what is true and what is not true, He will guide you into all truth. But it is a definite good read if you would like to color the pictures in that the Bible gives from Adam to Moses!!!

Easy to read and very interesting
Easy to read and very interesting, whether true or not that I'm not so sure but good to know what people in that time believed was true. Basic truth is with in us, we know what is morally right and nature teaches us what the Creator is like. value ourselves and value others.

Book of Jasher
I ordered this book because it was mentioned in another book but discovered it was mostly rubbish, and certainly did not seem to have been translated from the original Hebrew.

The Book of Jasher was very much like a bible read
The Book of Jasher was very much like a bible read. It does give you more insight into the Old Testament than what was excepted by the writers of the translation we now use. If you are interested in Old Testament, you will find this an interesting read.

What's in a name?
The translation is probably good, but the transliteration is garbage. I realize by following the bible for names and places you sell more books... but not now. It's a good read, if you know.
