Garage Royalty
May be as good as it gets from the the Garage Rock genre. "Witch", "Boss Hoss", "Psvcho", "Strychnine". Several good covers, too. Primal greatness.

Before Iggy there was...
The Sonics. While other groups were trying to sound like the Beatles in 1965 the Sonics were playing garage rock with an edge that sounded more like the Stooges. Granted, on this disk you will find cover versions of songs like "Do You Love Me" that are probably not that interesting but original rockers like Boss Hoss and the song from the Landrover comercial, "Have Love, Will Travel", rock very hard with aggresiveness and menacing distortion that will mark the later work of the Stooges, Heartbreakers (not Tom Petty's group) and the New York Dolls.

many bands like the sonics in mid 1960s usa
in the mid 1960s every town had a band like the sonics. the sonics must have been better than most because after all they made 2(?) albums. their originals are pretty good, the covers predictable. over all the talent level is modest. in 1965 the sonics were one of many. it was a great time for rock and roll. 3 and 1/2 stars. from the same time period you might want to try the much better, totally unique, wild and original "black monk time" by the monks instead. i dont remember any other band like them.

One hit wonders
This album is probably the greatest of all the "garage bands" of the 1960's. There is a raw energy that almost forces you to move your body. I don't remember this band when I was growing up in the 1960's and I was introduced to this group when I listened to iTunes in their '60's Garage & Surf Rock Radio section. After I heard songs from this album I knew I had to have the album. Almost all the songs from this album are very good and well worth the price.

I went for the vinyl and I am glad I did - with all due respect to Howard ...
Holy cow! I should have know about these guys a long time ago - they rule! I went for the vinyl and I am glad I did - with all due respect to Howard Stern, VINYL brings this up another level. DO yourself a favor and get this....and hopefully play it though speakers with at least a 12 inch subwoofer....

Rock AND Roll
Take the "Swamp Rock" out of Creedence Clearwater Revival and replace it with the intensity of 1,000 burning suns...HERE Are The Sonics!!!!This album even has two great Christmas songs!NOTE: There are three Christmas songs on this album; but, given modern sensitivities, some may find 'The Village Idiot' to be offensive. Others; however, will find it a pleasantly unique rendition of 'Jingle Bells'

They're a garageband
This is a fantastic garageband record, with a mix of covers and originals recorded in reasonable fidelity for the period and budget (everythings clear for a start). Energy levels are incredible, and it's no surprise they couldn't maintain this on later records. Great to see them performing again, and well worth the few pounds it cost. Anyone into basic rock (Stooges, Feelgoods, MC5, White Stripes etc.) should get this.
