We own multiple iterations and special editions of Axis and Allies, Risk, and Stratego. I bought Paths of Glory as a Christmas present for my son while he was on a World War I kick. It is a great step up if you are getting bored with the predictability & unrealistic aspects of Axis and Allies. Here are some highlights:- Supply points and lines of communication force you to consider security & logistics as you plan your campaigns- Card-driven action rounds seamlessly weave in historical events- Military units account for the relative strengths and weaknesses of different national armies (e.g. German armies are more powerful than French or Austrian armies, and the initial BEF is more powerful than subsequent British “Kitchener” Armies)- Reinforcements are based on a phased reinforcement table for both the Allies and Central Powers which are tied to the historic capabilities of each nation.- Game designers achieved elegant solutions to address both Russian capitulation and American entry into the warLike most GMT games, my only complaint is the complexity of the rule book.
