MountainsmithK-9 Pack

It's worth the money. Don't go for a cheaper pack!
This is a great pack. We recently took our dog on a 27 mile, 4 day, 3 night trail hike and this pack worked great! It didn't rub sore spots on her because the latches have padding to keep them from rubbing her. It stayed put when we remembered to secure the latches. She carried her food, her leash, and her ball. She weighs about 55 lbs and we ordered a medium for her. The size guide was a big help in determining which size to order. I highly recommend this pack

Finally. A great pack for my hiking buddy!
My fur kid and I do a LOT of hiking and we've gone through quite a few packs (for both her and I) and this is the first dog pack that does what is promises, it performs! Other packs are always sliding to one side or the other, no matter how well I try to balance and you shouldn't have to strap it so tight it's uncomfortable for your furry friend. I have literally scale weigh everything she carries down to the ounce, just like my pack and until this model, no luck. The way that this pack buckles underneath is the game changer, and the adjustment straps on top are the final touch of a great design. I would have like a lead hook up at the tail of the pack instead of the lead, but that's not worth taking off a star. (But maybe a suggestion for future models Mountainsmith?)The saddle bags are also the roomiest I've found so far as well. Now that doesn't mean weighing the poor girl down with heavy things (a six pack of beer does sound tasty after a long hike, but neither her nor I are packing that in) But having room for some bulkier light weight items like her camp throw and a towel is super handy. In the pictures, she's carrying everything that she would need for an overnight: sleeping throw, towel, 2 collapsible dog bowls, food, two bottles of water, tie out line, garbage bags for packing out, and and line lead. 4 pounds approximately and not too bulky. She carried it six miles in our trial hike and zero slippage. You'll find cheaper packs, but save yourself the headache, the game of chasing those cheap packs down the trail (flip back to top...watch it fall left....flip it up again.....watch it fall right), and your poor buddy's comfort on a long trail and just get this one. You won't regret it.

High quality product, thoughtful design, sizing just right!
FINALLY a backpack worth the money! Most people know that no two dogs are alike, and anyone who has tried to buy a mass market product for their dog knows just how true that is. This is the third backpack I purchased following sizing guidelines, and finally, FINALLY, we found a winner. The fit is exactly as expected per the measurements I took. Not only that, but the quality far surpasses the cheaper types I tried. This pack has several advantages beyond quality too, one of which is the extra attention to details which will help make the pack more comfortable for the dogs (like an extra layer of padding under the straps and buckles where they would rub against the dog. All components are well made and thoughtfully designed. Measure your dog and follow the guidelines and you should be good to go! Note: My dog is a 55 pound Vizsla / American Staffordshire Terrier mix, 27" girth, 19" neck, 24" back length, and I purchased size S.

More Comfortable Pack Means Your Dog Can Carry More
I bought a "tactical" vest for my 5mo old, 38lb lab mix puppy for use at the shooting range to carry her own gear and a first aid kit. I put two 1 pint bottles of water in each side and it was tough for her to lug that much weight (4.4lbs) so I took two bottles out and it was better, but walking was still awkward for her. Not only that, but when she'd sit the belly belt really cut into her abdomen making her very uncomfortable. I bought the Mountainsmith K-9 Pack for comparison sake, and put one bottle of water on each side and it was like night and day compared to the other pack—she could very easily walk around, sit comfortably, easily climb in and out of the car, wear it while riding in the car, and even curl up and lie down with ease. The key to this pack's flexibility is that each saddle bag hangs by two straps from the top portion that has the handle on it, rather than being connected by a solid piece of fabric like other packs. This allows the bags to hang naturally and provides the flexibility needed for the bags and the dog to move around enough for comfort yet still have the bags remain secure. The ONE improvement that would make this pack even BETTER, would be if that top portion were made of a true mesh material to allow the dog's skin and fur to breath. This pack is still designed so well it's definitely a keeper! The attached photo shows our 5 mo old lab-mix puppy, River, wearing the Medium size Dog Pack. She has a 24" girth, 18" length, and is 38 lbs, so I think she will easily grow into the medium quite nicely.

Great Design, Worth the Money
I tried a couple different brands of dog packs before finally spending the extra money to get the Mountainsmith. I should've just bought this pack from the get go. I got a medium sized for my 65# Golden Retriever and it fits him perfectly. There is actually a ton of room for adjustment on these packs. This allows you to get the perfect fit for your dog. Lots of slight adjustments can be made and I feel like they allow this to be a lot more comfortable on a dog. It is also very easy to put on. The way all the straps unbuckle makes it a lot less cumbersome to put this pack on.The material itself seems very durable. I feel confident it will definitely hold up in our outdoor excursions. Furthermore, the design is very ergonomically friendly to the dog. It keeps the saddlebags close to the dogs side and over his front legs. My dog doesn't even seem phased by it in the least. I bag sizes are also very large. There is one on each side and that's the only storage. However, they are very spacious. I can fit plenty of food, a travel doggy bed, travel bowls, towel, and still have room to pack more.Word of caution, don't go too overboard loading up your dog with weight. My dog weighs 65# and I wouldn't put much more than 4 lbs. on him at any given time. It may be easy to pack a lot in these bags, but keep it comfortable for your dog too.

good value
Fit my 40ish pound dog well, seems to be comfortable for her, she has worn it on one overnight hike and some shorter day hikes. we can fit a reasonable amount for her to carry in the pockets. the handle is very useful for assisting her in scrambles or holding on to her. pouches are NOT waterproof. check the clips periodically while hiking as sometimes they release or loosen.

buena mochila

we could have technically gotten a small but after some measurements went with a medium and we are glad we did
Bought this for my sisters 60 pds Pitbull terrier cross and it fit perfectly and was not uncomfortable for the dog (or my toddler who insisted on trying it on) at all. Make sure to check the sizing chart and measure your dog before buying, we could have technically gotten a small but after some measurements went with a medium and we are glad we did.Stiching and fabric are good quality and the built in leash loop is heavy duty.Would highly recommend this to anyone looking for doggy saddle bags.

Well designed and built. This bag is a winner!
Fits very well on our hound. He's 75lbs and lean with a narrow belly and the bag adjusted perfectly to his shape. We trained him to walk with it for about a month prior to completing a 3 day back country hike. It was large enough to carry his food, water, two folding bowls and his first aid kit. The materials are very durable and well put together. Our boy loves to wear it and had no chafing over the 34kms of hard hiking. Buy this bag with confidence.

I'm not super concerned about that however as I'm sure my dog ...
So far it seems OK. It came with some scuffs on it. I'm not super concerned about that however as I'm sure my dog will make more. The clasps that hold the straps however have not given me a ton of confidence as they come loose quite often, I am going to have to find a solution for this.

The medium size is a good fit for her
My Shepherd really likes this backpack. It makes it easier to walk her. She's a big girl but slender. The medium size is a good fit for her.
